Based on NordVPN’s information (the article you shared), they appear to have customized OpenVPN to support obfuscation.
As a result, the standard OpenVPN client (such as the one on our routers) cannot be used.
At the moment, it seems that only an open-source third-party client on macOS supports this.
Setting up NordVPN obfuscated server manually
Unfortunately, you can only manually connect to the NordVPN obfuscated servers via the Tunnelblick application on macOS.
No other device can do that because while the VPN server can disguise the packets, the VPN Client (the OpenVPN or NordVPN application you use to connect to our servers) must also obfuscate the packets. Otherwise, the connection will not work, so most routers and OpenVPN clients will not connect.
