Opal as wg server and Beryl as wg client

I am using repeater for wg server and connecting wg client

There are 2 issues I am facing at the moment that needs immediate fix as I am traveling to a different country on Thursday from Canada.

  1. Suddenly wg server gets disconnected from my wifi and wg server keeps blinking the light and I need to manually reconnect my wifi to it
  2. Why does my wg client won't work when I connect to both Ethernet and repeater.
Not sure why my Ethernet is not working for wg

Hello,

Sorry, the description is a bit confusing.
According to my understanding of the network topology, you have deployed an Opal, as WG server (call server router) in Canada, and you will carry a Bery to other places, as WG client (call client router).

Server router:

  1. Is it connected to the primary router through repeater? Will the repeater be disconnected for no reason? If possible, the server router tries to connect wired to the primary router.

  2. Make sure the primary router has a public network IP (dynamic one is OK), and enable port forwarding.

Client router:

  1. Make sure its WAN source is not in the Canadian home network, you can turn on the hotspot to Opal through your phone to simulate that the router is on the external network (another country)

  2. If you connect to both Ethernet and repeater at the same time, the WG VPN will not be disconnected.

Hi @bruce

I have done everything as per the instructions

My glinet works fine with repeater but why not with Ethernet?

My Ethernet shows disconnected when I check network interface from power shell. Who so?

I would like to understand this quickly as I am traveling to India in 2 days. Kindly share your knowledge.

Does this Ethernet refer to the WAN or LAN port of the router?

Please draw a network topology connected.
How does the disconnection be detected? Please take a screenshot.

Hi Bruce,

I am a big zero when it comes to internet but pls find the below topology in words,

Issue 1:

  1. Bell Canada as my primary router
  2. Ethernet cable from bell to opal Wan port which is my wireguard server
  3. Repeater also enabled on opal and the interface priority is set as repeater then ethernet
  4. Once I plug in the ethernet, my wg client beryl is not connecting
  5. I keep receiving the error that unable to find the device name - my ddns enabled config domain name
  6. But if I unplug my ethernet, wireguard works smoothly

Issue 2:

  1. Bell Canada as my primary router
  2. Ethernet not connected
  3. Repeater is main
  4. But repeater suddenly disconnects from my primary router and breaks the connection by blinking. Someone has to manually connect again
  5. Now I am away and it happened again. Since I kept the router at my brother's place. He reconnected repeater. But he is also leaving next week and need an immediate solution today atleast for issue 2.
  6. Pls let me know if we can connect on a call and I can show you the details from goodcloud

Hi,

About issue1,
Please connect the Opal to Bell via WAN and disconnect the repeater of Opal.

Since the repeater and WAN to the primary router connected to are the same one.
If you required the VPN server, just choose one of the WAN connection methods, otherwise the packet will have conflicts.

Given that the wired WAN connection is more stable, please choose WAN connection first.

Correspondingly, port forwarding enabled on the Bell and set Opal WAN IP + WG server port.

About issue2,

  1. Please try upgrading to the latest firmware v4.7.2 (beta).

  2. Repeater is preferred to connect to Primary 5G WiFi.

  3. If issue reproduces, please PM me the syslog (GL GUI -> System -> Log -> Export).
