Opal GL-SFT1200 Keeps Dropping Connection

On the back of a positive experience with your "Beryl AX" router (that I use for travel), just a few weeks ago, I purchased an "Opal" device to serve as a Wi-Fi repeater at home.

Unfortunately, my experience with the new router has not been good and this is quite possibly THE WORST ROUTER I HAVE EVER OWNED and it requires near weekly attention. I've lost count of the number of times I've factory reset and reconfigured the router.

Despite upgrading to latest FW and testing in both Ethernet and Repeater modes (connected to my home router), the Opal device repeatedly loses the connection and I get an error indicating that the 2.4GHz SSID has no internet connection.

The router lost its connection again this evening and after repeatedly factory resetting the device the configuration now stuck on the admin password change screen, displaying revolving circles - even after rebooting the device several times.

Is there anything more I can do to get access to this device and get it reconnected, or is it destined for the trash can?

In hindsight, I wish I'd purchased another "Beryl AX" device, or perhaps I'd be better advised to switch to another brand?

Many thanks in anticipation of any help that can get this thing back online..

Sometimes WiFi issues can also be caused by radio interference from neighbours, as was the case in my case.

If you noticed that 2.4G WiFi restarts frequently, the first solution is to change the router setting from automatic to fixed channel. No matter which channel, pivk one at random and fix to it. If it solves your problem, that is great. If not, then you can install a WiFi analyzer APP in your smartphone, check which channel is better and change to it.

There's a very long thread here about this:

Where did you purchase the Opal from?

Thanks for the link, @hecatae I'll have a read of that thread and thanks also to @bzd1234 I do have the Wi-Fi scanner app, so will review my channel assignments.

I purchased the router from Amazon in October 2024, so if the return window hadn't closed, I'd have returned it by now and purchased something else

If you wander into Luci, you can assign the correct country code for your country, I have to change my Opal from DE to GB as I'm in the UK.

There's also Immortalwrt for the SFT1200 if you are only using the Opal as a repeater:
