Hi folks,
I’ve had my Opal router for about a month now and it’s been great. One slight annoyance however, is that my 5Ghz speeds have dropped from 500Mbps to around 150Mbps when upgrading the firmware to 4.7.2 Beta from the latest stable version. I appreciate this is Beta, and it’s not by any means a majoe issue as I can still max out Wireguard connections etc. I just don’t get what is causing this seemingly unneccesary speed drop.
The main reason for using the Beta version is that there are a few VPN providers missing from the latest stable version. There’s a lot more present on the Beta version.
Is there something obvious I am missing? 5Ghz config looks correct with it being set to 80Mhz, and the network is separated from the 2.4Ghz network.
Appreciate any help. Thank you!
Hi
Could you please help us confirm the following details:
- Aside from upgrading the Opal firmware version, were all other devices, cables, and connections kept the same?
- What is the negotiated Wi-Fi rate on the client device? Is it consistent with what you observed previously?
- Is the wireless interference in your area severe? Please try downloading WiFi analysis software on your phone/laptop and change the SFT1200's channel to a less crowded one.
- Please try installing OpenSpeedTest on the SFT1200 to check the speed the same client can achieve.
This will help us rule out factors such as WLAN–WAN forwarding overhead and ISP network fluctuations.
You can find the installation guide here:

Thanks for the reply. I found the issue! On the 4.7.2 Beta, it seems that hardware accelleration under Networks > Network Acceleration is disabled by default. I enabled this and all is well. I am getting around 500Mbps now
