I have a new out of the box Opal SFT 1200 I have tried connect USB devices including my cell phone but the port does not respond. I logged on to the router and find no way of turning it on. Am I missing something or is it just a bad port? Please Advise.
You and me both. I have two Opals here and neither will recognise anything USB plugged into them. USB modems, NICS, drives... not a flicker of any recognition. All I keep getting when searching the web is a reference to switching the USB port down to 2.0 - that doesn't exist in my config. I'm desperately trying to test various cellular failover combinations for a work project right now and really need these to work reliably - especially as the other option being presented is Dra*tek and I have really grown to detest them over time!
Both are on the latest firmware
- Version4.3.25
- Firmware Typerelease2
- Compile Time2025-03-07 11:19:12(UTC+08:00)
Can anyone help us here I wonder?? TIA
anything showing in the system log?
Nope. Nothing whatsoever. It delivers power but will not react in any way to the device.
So, how do we go about resolving this matter?
Is this a fault and if so what are the official channels? How do I get manufacturer assistance or is this forum the closest I can get?
If someone could advise me on the next steps I would be very grateful.
Dropped a ticket into GL.iNet support and got a response quite quickly.
It was suggested I try a different power supply and also try upgrading to the latest (beta) firmware 4.7.2. I did the firmware but made no difference but then realised I have the power hooked up to a fairly beefy 12 volt PSU that hangs off of my UPS. To get 5V it plugs into a two port board that accepts 12V in and gives 5V out at around 5Amps max. It was then that I realised the cable I was using to connect fromt he Opal to this 12V-5V adapter was a bit thin. I grabbed a decent USB A to C cable and plugged the Opal into an XTAR battery back so I could see the current draw on the pack's screen. At the sane time I connected an Android A53 with a data cable and up came tethering! The battery pack reached a max of 800mA drain.
So, I have replaced the power lead into the Opal with this new decent cable and hooked it up to the 12V-5V board again and I still have tethering. The beta software improces a few things with the multi-WAN so this was welcome. I now have a Huawei 5G router as my main IA route and the Samsung A53 as a backup 5G route (different mobile providers).
What I was origjnially intending to do was connect an unlocked open software 4G Huawei router via a USB-Ethernet device into its WAN port so I could make use of the voice port on the 4G router for the unlimited calls on this bckup device. It will not see anything connected via a USB-Ethernet adapter and I have tried a few. Seems there has to be some sort of tethering signal or notifcation to kick start the process. How annoying.
If anyone knows how to fool the Opal into thinking a network device is a tethering device I would be most welcome.
Props toGl.iNet support!
