Opal travel router and PairVPN

Hello. We are wanting to use our Verizon phone/hotspot data for tv viewing and are interested in using PairVPN on iPhones to get around the hotspot data caps. Until ios18 came around, we have always cast youtubeTV by hdmi to the camper tv, but ios18 apparently ruined that for us.

Anyway, we have a gl.inet opal gl-sft1200 travel router arriving tomorrow to play with. Is there a way to use PairVPN with the router itself and tether the phone to it via usb connection, and use pairVPN to “fool” the phone into thinking it’s using app data rather than hotspot data? We would then use the WiFi to feed our fire stick and other devices.

If PairVPNis not a solution, is there another way to achieve this without hauling a laptop and other gear with us?

Our backup plan is going to be using PairVPN to feed connection to an iPad from an iPhone, and then cast video via hdmi from the iPad to the tv.

Thanks.

You can try to achieve the goal with the GL - SFT1200 router, but there are limitations and risks. First, connect your iPhone to the router via USB, enable USB hotspot, run PairVPN on the phone to encrypt traffic, and then the router shares it to other devices via Wi - Fi. However, Verizon may detect the bypass of hotspot data (violating its terms, leading to throttling or disconnection).

Try changing the router's TTL to 65.
