Nevermind! You just answered it before I hit “Submit”.
Thanks.
No problem. I also need to develop some tools to detect the latency of servers. In case you have hundreds of servers, it is better to have simple tools to rate them and remove dead servers.
I updated the 300N to v2.17 but there is no VPN option on there, is it a different build that you are releasing with the VPN feature for testing?
Really looking forward to trying it, loving the MT300N so far
Hi, now the openvpn firmware is only testing and only available for AR150. We will try to provide the firmware for MT300N this week. Thanks for waiting.
I wait <span style=“color: #222222; font-family: source_sans_proregular, ‘Helvetica Neue’, Arial, Helvetica, Geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; background-color: #f9f9f9;”>for MT300N upgrade, Alzhao thank you for your time to mak it better !</span>
@michaeljones, @yo2ldk, @vpnHelp
OpenVPN firmware v2.18 for MT300N, MT300A and MT750 is available now.
Please download from GL.iNet download center, choose the device model->v1 and find v2.18, after testing we will make it upgrade-able online.
We also revised the UI to support PIA (https://www.privateinternetaccess.com/), which has a little different settings in the ovpn file.
Great!
I have a 6416 (although it reports only 8GB) and a StrongVPN OpenVPN account. I can test the build with my account and report…
Regards,
Keith
Hello! Really need firmware for 6416! Ready to test with a home router Asus RT-N66U with OpenVPN server. Thank you!
Tested with PIA on MT300A. Works perfectly.
@alzhao The firmware 2.18 for the GL-MT300N not working wi-fi, 2.17 ok.
@Zakah, do you mean there is no wifi?
Did you use as repeater mode? Did you reserve config when update?
If yes, please revert to factory status (press the button for 10 seconds) and start over.
Thank you so much for this!
I am using the new firmware with mt300N and proxy.sh.
Unfortunately, my upgrade did not go so smoothly, but I am sure you will be able to correct these minor issues.
I uploaded the firmware… and it said: “Upgrading your system. Don’t turn off your router or reflash this window”
I believe this should be: “Upgrading your system. Don’t turn off your router or refresh this window”.
It reached 100% uploaded and then it continued trying to reload the page every few seconds for at least 2 minutes. (the Windows Network icon continued to show disconnected.). I got around this by unplugged the LAN cable from my computer and reconnected it, refreshed the browser and logging back in to the router. (Comodo firewall alerted a new network was found and internet access was working. )
I uploaded a few different .ovpn files to the router without success to connect. I finally had success with one configured for TCP port 443, the others were for UDP 1443 and just displayed “Please wait…” for long periods of time. I had to refresh the browser in order to cancel each attempt and try again.
When uploading one config file it didn’t automatically select it after the upload was complete, rather it left the drop-down field blank. I made the mistake of clicking “APPLY” without a config file selected. It just said “No Username/Key”. Perhaps “Please first select an .ovpn file” would be clearer. It might be nice if the drop-down automatically defaulted to the uploaded file when only 1 exists.
If I have multiple files uploaded and click APPLY, the drop-down menu shows the incorrect .ovpn file.
ie. select a config file, click ‘apply’, check ‘enable’ and then click ‘apply’.
I found myself often enabling the wrong config file because of this. I guess adding ‘selected’ to the dropdown will fix this.
I finally got : “OpenVpn is connected”
However, the internet was not accessible. I checked the System Logs:

I disabled the VPN, then connected again with “Force VPN” disabled.
Then enabled “Force VPN”, which connected again and functions correctly with full internet access.
Whatsmyip.org confirms the VPN is working.
FYI. proxy.sh have several port options in their “OPENVPN CONFIG GENERATOR”.
TCP: 80, 110, 443, 843
UDP: 53, 1194, 1443, 8080, 9201
Which of these does the router support?
I read once that UDP performs better, but I don’t know how accurate that is.
Thanks.
Thanks for your detailed report. proxy.sh is not tested. I need to test its configure and come back to you.
Yes, there are a lot to be improved in the UI. I will consider your suggestions one by one and improve the UI.
Thank you @alzhao.
To summarize, it IS working with proxy.sh right now on TCP 443. I’m posting this while using it. Connection is stable.
If other ports cannot connected, seems it is not a problem of our firmware.
BTW, seems you are using in China! We always got these problems in China: most servers cannot connect, when connected, no traffic!
Hi,
thank you for the updated firmware, I am able to connect to the vpn but when I check the ‘Force VPN’ then there is no internet. I tried the above trick as well by vpnhelp first connect with ‘Force VPN’ box unchecked and after vpn is connected check the box but internet is still not working.
Syslog:
daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'VPN_client' is now up daemon.notice openvpn[13418]: Initialization Sequence Completed user.notice firewall: Reloading firewall due to ifup of VPN_client (tun0)Is it not able to reload the firewall?
Thanks
“Force VPN” will change your firewall settings so that traffic only goes to VPN. If unchecked, you will be able to use the normal Internet before VPN is connected. But after VPN is connected, this setting is not useful, as all the traffic goes to the VPN interface.
If you cannot use Internet when VPN is up, generally it means the connect from your router to vpn server is not good. Try other ovpn files if you can.
So, if you can tell me which VPN service you are using or even send me the ovpn files to try, that will be helpful.
Openvpn server is running on Asus AC68U (merlin firmware) and I am able to connect to my local machines behind the openvpn server so the connection is good.
ovpn file config:
client dev tun proto udp remote <openvpnserver> 1194 float comp-lzo adaptive keepalive 15 60 ns-cert-type server <ca> -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa -----END CERTIFICATE----- </ca> <cert> -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa -----END CERTIFICATE----- </cert> <key> -----BEGIN PRIVATE KEY----- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa -----END PRIVATE KEY----- </key> <tls-auth> -----BEGIN OpenVPN Static key V1----- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa -----END OpenVPN Static key V1----- </tls-auth> resolv-retry infinite nobind"
So, what is the problem? You can connect to local machines but cannot connect to Internet? I don’t understand.
Sorry for the confusion.
Issue: All traffic is not going through vpn, option is not working. When I connect without ‘force vpn’ internet works and able to connect to local machines but when I connect with ‘force vpn’ Internet does not work but can still connect to local machines.
