in LAN - DHCP I can set a DNS server. what happens if I enter the routers own IP adress here?
Are all DNS requests from Clients first forwarded to the router and then to the servers set under DNS tab? is this then responsible for the hostname communication, e.g. I enter \\clientname in windows for file copy?
Is it correct entering the routers IP in DHCP DNS for a small home network?
Modify the router's own IP to DHCP DNS is no problem, but by default, the DHCP server offers the router's LAN IP as the DNS server to the clients.
In a general home/SME topology, all clients send DNS requests to the router, and router forwards them to the DNS server set under the DNS tab, and also is responsible for resolving hostnames.
