Please upgrade to firmware v2.25 asap

OK. I’m not sure I understand the logic of back rev’ing the firmware to support a function that should be in the current build. Maybe you could just make sure the “repeater manager” is in the next build of your software. If I was only accessing a single upstream WIFI network this would not be an issue. But this is not the case in my deployment.

@wakesk8tr

I don’t think that’s what alzhao is saying… the repeater mode he describes does exist on the firmware. Basically if the AP that you are repeating from isn’t available, the router will disable that interface, but still allow you to connect via wireless lan.

He’s saying that the only way you would potentially have lost that functionality is if you UPGRADED from an older FW and had the keep settings box checked. Try a clean upgrade - it should work - but the initial setup, i’ve always done wired. I think you can do wireless, using the default info thats printed on the sticker.

@Alfie - cna we disable the DDNS altogether?

Hi, I have a 6416, purchased in April 2014, so I think the firmware was on version 1.x. I downloaded the firmware from GL.iNet download center (version 2.25). When I flashed the firmware from the web interface, the file uploaded, but then I was stuck on the “Please Wait. Preparing flash…” page.

After waiting over 30 minutes to be sure, I tried power-cycling the device, then held the reset button for 10 seconds to try to factory reset. I still get the same “preparing flash” page when accessing the interface. How can I restore access to try flashing the new firmware?

@AxeBro, thanks for helping to clarify. To disable ddns, you just disable WAN access and the DDNS will be disabled as well.

@mooboynyc, sorry to hear that. As you purchase in 2014, it probably a 8MB version. Because the current firmware is too big, there is no spare space left on the flash so you will always have this message. Sorry to say that this firmware cannot fit in a 8MB flash version. you can flash an old version or a clean version using uboot.

@alzhao Thank you for the prompt reply. For everyone else’s benefit, I was able to flash my older 8M 6416 with version 2.20-7 (7.5MB when downloaded) using these uboot flashing instructions. In particular, note that it is indeed important to have only one ethernet cable plugged into the unit.

Hello,

Still getting the following error with v2.25

OpenVpn is not started

OpenVPN 2.3.10 mips-openwrt-linux-gnu [SSL (OpenSSL)] [LZO] [EPOLL] [MH] [IPv6] library versions: OpenSSL 1.0.2g 1 Mar 2016, LZO 2.08 neither stdin nor stderr are a tty device and you have neither a controlling tty nor systemd - can’t ask for ‘Enter Private Key Password:’. If you used --daemon, you need to use --askpass to make passphrase-protected keys work, and you can not use --auth-nocache. Exiting due to fatal error

/etc/openvpn/auth/datetime.txt file exists and is identified in the ovpn file for the connection.

This is a connection to pivpn and is working on other devices (mobile and laptop).

Have attempted adding askpass on AR300M in config file.

None of these has solved the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Rob

@treborw I also am still getting the error when trying to connect to my pi vpn. Hopefully this gets solved

seem Pi vpn has more problems because people always configure private passphrase. Will modify and consider this

Alfie,

Seems like after this update the Client AP doesn’t always get renabled. Even after several reboots. I’ve tried going into the openwrt settings and enable there, but if it doesn’t find the last AP, gets disabled immediately.

The only option is to factory reset.

Was fine in previous versions.

@<span style=“color: #222222; font-family: source_sans_proregular, ‘Helvetica Neue’, Arial, Helvetica, Geneva, sans-serif; background-color: #f9f9f9;”> treborw and @</span><span style=“color: #222222; font-family: source_sans_proregular, ‘Helvetica Neue’, Arial, Helvetica, Geneva, sans-serif; background-color: #f9f9f9;”>Jswee1:</span>

I had that same problem in that the AR300M could not ask for a password interactively. The solution for pivpn is to generate the OpenVPN profiles using “nopass”, such as:

$ pivpn -a nopass
Hope this helps.

Hi, im using 6416A,

i update to 2.25, first boot ok, i reboot several times still no problem. then i set gl inet as repeater(WDS) -> reboot -> i cant access main page or luci, then i try to reset then it stuck at select language.

so i reflash with 2.25, still stuck at select language.

flash with 2.20. it work fine , but after setting repeater (WDS) i cant access admin page

flash again with 2.20 still have same problem.

flash with 2.25, stuck at select language again

flash 2.12, setting wds, it work fine

Update :

so i try update from 2.12 to 2.25, it work fine, but when i try to access admin page, sometimes redirect not work, so i have to add “/html” to url. when redirect not work, it show select language page (again) and stuck (again)

Good afternoon Alzhao, I saw a new message on the main page in router gl-mt300n, a new version of the firmware (2.261) is ready for download. You are not able to inform the public of the list of changes in it?

Have a look here:

http://www.gl-inet.com/firmware/testing/readme.txt

and here

Thank you Glitch.

I have an AR300m running v2.24. I am currently doing an around the world trip and use the router in WISP mode to connect to my VPN at home. None of my computing devices has an Ethernet port so I’m worried about doing the update and then not being able to connect to the router because of a glitch in the wifi during the update. Any advice on this?

You answered your own question, unless you are waiting for someone to “egg you on” and persuade you to go for it.

I’m not sure if you’re trying to be helpful or snarky with your reply. It seems like I’m asking a reasonable questions considering I’ve read that I should update the firmware because of vulnerabilities in the VPN and I’ve read that updating the firmware can cause all the settings to be lost. I’m not a genius like you Glitch. I’m asking if the VPN vulnerability is bad enough that I should risk the firmware update.

Well, your post suggested you were worried about a bad flash, not security weaknesses.

I think you are here:
If worry (bad flash) > worry (security flaw) => do nothing, otherwise => upgrade.

Personally, I’d upgrade and in the event of a screw up, go find myself a LAN cable.

HTH,
Glitch
PS. latest firmware is 2.261, I believe.

If you have a PC with a USB port then buy a suitable USB serial adapter so you can always recover if your wifi settings are somehow lost.

'm fairly sure that you can always just factory reset if any of your settings are wrong and you’ll start fresh with an open wifi network.
