Plug-ins upgrade

Hello!! :grinning:
I’m curious about how the plugi-ins are upgraded, I’m interested in Crowdsec:

It’s outdated, I don’t know where o who to inform about this.

Thank you very much and best regards!!

Hello!! :grinning:
Should I install Crowdsec from the Luci web interface? I’ve seen that in the OpenWRT repos is the last version available:

Best regards!! :grinning: :grinning:

Hello!!
After further investigation, I’ve realized that in Openwrt 22.03 Crowdsec is updated to the its last version. In addition, I observe that .ipk packages are downloadable.

Can I install packages from Openwrt 22.03 in 21.02?

Thank you very much and very best regards!! :grinning: :grinning:

Hello
I've got the same question.
Is it safe to install an .ipk package from OpenWrt 23.05.4 on the OpenWrt 21.02 (GL.iNet v4.6.2 Firmware) ?

No, it's not safe* and you should never ever upgrade the packages on the GL firmware automatically. (Even if this isn't the main question, I want to warn about it) So running something like update all packages will simply brick the device.

*) You can try of course, because it highly depends on the package itself if it works or just explodes.

Ok I’ll forget this idea !
But it’s very annoying to have the possibility of installing an app , but to have this app outdated !!

I’m not willing to let go of the GL.iNet GUI I find great by installing a pure OpenWRT firmware…

Is there an update coming for the GL.iNet GUI firmware ?

Updates for GL firmware are pushed regularly, but 3rd party software will be outdated most of the time due to own release cycles of this software.

For staying always up-to-date, pure OpenWRT might be required indeed.

Ok, ok, you're starting to convince me to migrate on the full OpenWRT firmware.
But I'm afraid I'll loose the settings I already have : Wireguard VPN server and the clients I configure to use it, all my IP reservation, port forwarding, wireless settings, etc...

Can I migrate to the latest OpenWRT firmware and keep my settings. If yes, how?

My advice, tbh: Stay with the GL firmware. Outdated software isn't great, but not worth it to fiddle with OpenWrt itself, imho.

No, there is no migration path. Starting from scratch is necessary.

Ouch!

And my configuration backup made inside LUCI GUI, could it be restore on a full OpenWRT?

Will lead to issues, so no - you need to cherry-pick the config and maybe need to adjust it manually, if the new OpenWrt requires different settings.

Ok ok, I'm not willing to give a huge amount of time trying to understand how to achieve what I already have with GL.iNet GUI.

So i'll wait for an update, and gave up on Crowdsec on the router.
