Possiblity to make an eco system either via products or firmware

With the releases of more home router products it would be nice to explore some new avenues in terms of features / firmware.

For example. The flint 3 is a great home router but what if we want to place another additional mini travel router or even another flint 3 at the back of the property in access point mode to serve clients In an area that the main glinet router just can't reach due to limiting factors. Yes we can put the second router in access point mode but this is basically like putting any router in access point as it becomes independent to the main router but serves clients.

I would like to be able to possibly pair / adopt a glinet router that has been selected to run in access point mode. This way we can see all our clients in our main router and possibly have more fine control, like roaming features, AP locking and more.

Maybe there could be an access point only mode firmware that we could flash which then allows the said features? Although having more access point settings / features in the current firmware would be ideal.

Basically an overview / system like unifi and tp-link omada. If we could get this typology in the gui just by having someway to adopt or merge different routers together that would be brilliant.

This is all "what ifs" but I think it would be a good avenue to explore.

I currently run the Brume 2 along with 3rd party access points. If there was a mini package that glinet made, router, switch and mainly compatible glinet PoE access points with one gui overview then that might interesting...

From what you described, I understand your expectation is not just about expanding Wi-Fi coverage via access points, but rather building a centralized multi-device network management system, similar to what systems like Unifi or Omada offer. In other words, it’s about enabling seamless coordination between multiple GL.iNet routers/APs, with features such as:

  • Unified device management and topology overview
  • Centralized control of APs (adopt/pair)
  • Client visibility across all nodes
  • Roaming and AP-locking settings
  • Possibly a lightweight “AP-only” firmware or control mode

We see this as a mesh-like architecture enhanced with centralized coordination and cloud-based visibility, which aligns with some of our product roadmap directions. Integration with our cloud platform (GoodCloud) could also be considered as part of this.

Your feedback is very valuable, and we will definitely take it into account as we explore more advanced multi-device deployment solutions.

Exactly this! All the feature sets you listed are exactly what I was meaning.

You mention about the cloud / GoodCloud being part of the roadmap for the possible eco system. Whilst I agree the cloud can play a part I would also like the possibility to be able to self host / have an onboard "controller" whereby the system would still work without having to use any registered online services. The same as how you can run Unifi and TP-Link.

You could also take Grandstreams approach which is an even better approach. They let you run a selfhosted controller on their hardware which eliminates the need for any hardware / docker based controller.

Yup; I was wondering if you'd hit the self hosting point and you did. GoodCloud looks nice and all but why run TailScale for privacy when there's:

(Keep in mind most of these GL.iNet devices run OpenWrt under the hood. It's completely possible to build custom dashboards to remotely pull/push/query uci details over passwordless ssh. How's your scripting skills?)
