Power and network outage in area. Now my Beryl AX won't display its network

Context:

I have my main router (MAIN) from my ISP which is not connected to the internet due to the outage. My BerylAX (BERYL) was connected to MAIN and I would normally just connect to its Wi-Fi network from my laptop and do business as usual. Since the outage, BERYL was flashing blue and I wasn't able to connect to it. I would have thought that I could connect to BERYL and it wouldn't be able to connect to the Internet, but that wasn't the case.

Presumably, this is because BERYL has a WireGuard client running. If not that, it could be because it's part of the same Tailnet as my laptop and Tailscale is a bit finnicky.

After un- and re-plugging BERYL a couple of times, waiting sufficiently long while it was unplugged, it still wouldn't let me connect to it.

Just now, I decided to connect BERYL to my Mudi V2 (MUDI) via ethernet, which has a SIM card in it and is able to provide Internet connection. My laptop is also connected to BERYL via ethernet.

I can now access the admin panels of both routers, and I can ssh into BERYL and ping 8.8.8.8 and get responses, but I still cannot ping BERYL unless I'm connected to it via ethernet. It's still not broadcasting a network. I even disabled and re-enabled the Wi-Fi networks from BERYL's admin panel, and I don't see them.

I'm very curious what exactly went wrong, and how to fix it besides nuking my device.

Edit: I just tried disconnected the ethernet between MUDI and BERYL and set up the latter to be a repeater for MUDI but just as soon as I did, it struggled to find the wifi from MUDI (which exists as my laptop is connected to it). I restarted again BERYL but it still is failing to connect to MUDI via the repeater setting and it's failing to display a wifi connection to my laptop.

Hello,

Please share the Beryl AX with us via GoodCloud, let us know the router MAC address and web UI login password.

May I know the Beryl AX loses its Wi-Fi after it only Power Outage?
Has it experienced falling?

Others confirm,

  1. What functions are enabled in the router firmware?

  2. Did it install some third-party plug-ins on the firmware?

  3. Is local WiFi losing at the moment? Can it scan primary WiFi in repeater?

Sorry, I ended up resetting the device the next day (which did fix it, at least). So, this problem in particular is solved, but to answer those questions anyway:

  1. Wireguard, samba server, tailscale
  2. Probably something to mount my flash drive for the samba server
  3. When hardwired to MUDI via ethernet, it was not able to scan for a primary WiFi in Repeater mode.

Coincidentally, now I'm experiencing something which I wonder if it's related, but I'm still not sure how to address. I can make this into another post if so, but:

BERYL won't reliably connect to MAIN, and it won't let me access the Internet if BERYL and MAIN are connected. I'm running Tailscale on it and I can connect to BERYL through my Tailnet, but idk.

Now, I can access the internet if I'm connected directly to MAIN, and BERYL seems to provide an Internet connection if connected to MUDI, so I'm not sure what's going on.

I'm going to try testing this by using BERYL under a different connection, but I really would need it to work with MAIN so I'm lost again.

I've still yet to go to another spot (will probably do that after work), but something I'm noticing is that, as BERYL is connected to MUDI, I can access the internet if I'm on BERYL's guest network, but if I'm on the main network than everything just stalls and my KDE NetworkManager icon shows the yellow !.

I actually don't think I can connect to BERYL through my Tailnet unless I'm connected to it directly. I'm not sure what exactly the cause of that is since my ~/.ssh/config has the Tailscale connection method and the direct method under different Hosts and HostNames.

Also, BEYRL is presently connected to MUDI, and it's not able offer Internet connection through the non-guest network. MUDI is connected to MAIN as well as using a SIM card, but when I'm connected directly to MUDI I can access the internet.

So, this seems to squarely be some issue with the non-guest BERYL network. My first guess is now Tailscale or something since I can see why that wouldn't affect the guest network.

I disabled Tailscale and I could access the Internet through BERYL/MUDI, but I still couldn't get Internet through BERYL/MAIN. Turning on Tailscale with BERYL/MUDI up isn't an issue, but using a separate router on my Tailnet (CAVE) as a custom exit node seems to stop all Internet connection. This is weird since, according to my Tailscale Admin Console, I was already advertising route 192.168.3.0/24, which Gl.inet said to ensure before proceeding with selecting an exit node. So, I'm not sure why exactly that's a problem, especially since I can still access CAVE through my Tailnet when connecting from my laptop.

That may just be a separate issue that I'll have to address (if anyone is willing to help me with it), but I still don't know why BERYL won't connect to MAIN...

Edit: hours later, I'm away from home with my laptop and MUDI. My laptop is running Tailscale and I'm able to connect to BERYL via the tailnet, so it has to be connected to MAIN, but I don't know why that's happening. Still, the test was to eventually connect BERYL to another network and see if it's main subnet (not Guest) is working - I've yet to do that.

Hello,

I think we can first rule out the impact of tailscale and try to do the following test:

  1. The above tests Beryl - Main connection through the repeater (wireless), right? If the connection through network cable(wiring), is the Internet ok?

  2. Reset the firmware or disable the tailscale (preventing the impact of the exit node), is the Internet of connection Beryl/Main ok?

  3. If 2 is abnormal, SSH to the router, check network availability by following command:

ifconfig
ip r
ping <primary router LAN IP>
ping 8.8.8.8
ping google.com
traceroute google.com
