I just saw the very recently announced Spitz Plus (GL-X2000). I've been checking the GL-iNet site regularly for something just like this. So I was very excited to see this!
...And then my heart sank when I looked at the product images because it looks like the power connection is not USB-C. Is that correct? It's probably too late to change this, but gosh it would be so much better the USB-C. Not sure one opinion will sway you to make a last minute change, but I'm putting in my vote.
Hey @doczenith1 thanks for that. I should have mentioned I was aware of the barrel plug to USB-C cables. I had one for my Spitz AX. But it kind of defeats the purpose and benefit of USB-C when you have to get a separate cable for it.
For these devices 12V input is still the main requirements. The devices will be used in some places that output 12 to 24V like truck, RV etc. So we need to design and wide range power input.
TypeC is used in most of our consumer products.
Wether we need to change 12V to TypeC is subject to customer's feedback. It may happen as more and more places provide typeC.
Fair enough, no worries. I appreciate the reply, thank you. I also noticed this comment asking for USB-C for the Spitz Plus. Just noting it here for cross reference purposes for anyone seeing this.
As an extra note, I'd also like to see USB port on future devices to be USB-C as well.
I have no problem with a "barrel jack" type power supply, as long as it's a standard 5521 or even 5525 and not a daft size like on the x750 (Spitz 1) which is something like 4017 IIRC - good luck finding a (cheap) PD adapter for that!
Spitz Plus is a DC 12V/2.5A with a size of 5.5*2.1mm. This is a commonly used and standard specification, which should be relatively easy to find compatible accessories.
I use USB C barrel adapters for my Spitz X750 routers and my Spitz AX. The one for the Spitz X750 is not that uncommon. You do need a USB C adapter to provide the correct voltage. Most USB C adapters will provide 15v or up to 20v. Those will NOT work for Sptiz X750.
Here is what I currently power my X750 routers:
and the barrel adapter (you need to select the 4.0x1.7mm one). For some reason it's showing the 4.0x1.3mm:
This product launch from GL.iNet is a significant disappointment, especially for 2025, as it lacks a USB-C port a major oversight given the new EU law requiring USB-C for most electronic devices. It’s also incorrect to suggest that USB-C primarily supports only 5V. In today’s world, USB-C often uses Power Delivery (PD) with e-marker chips, allowing a range of voltages from 5V (the legacy USB 2/3 standard) up to 21V or more. The mentioned USB-C-to-DC cable simply employs an e-marker chip that limits the output to 12V. Most people now use USB-C chargers with Power Delivery, so releasing a DC-only device forces users to buy extra cables just to connect it with their existing USB-C chargers a frustrating and unnecessary inconvenience.
Thank you for your attention to the GL-X2000 and for your valuable feedback. We understand your anticipation for a USB-C interface.
The GL-X2000 is designed with 12V and 24V input environments in mind, such as Recreational Vehicles, offering a wide voltage input range of 9~36V and a 5.5x2.1mm DC adapter to ensure device compatibility and stability.
We acknowledge your point about the USB-C interface. We are always listening to market feedback and continuously improving our products. The design decisions for the GL-X2000 are based on current market demands and specific application scenarios. We may consider incorporating a USB-C interface in future products to meet the needs of more users.
Releasing a USB-C powered device that requires 12V would be a tech support nightmare. I can guarantee that there will be many people who will see USB-C and just assume any old USB-C charger will work. Perhaps a year from now the majority of people will be more familiar with USB-C and understand that it operates at multiple voltages but that's not today.
