PPPoE on GL-AX1800 (will not connect)

Hi All

I am trying to connect to PPPoE on GL-AX1800 (latest firmware as of today). It is not working, no matter what I try, I am on Plusnet, and in the admin panel (v4.2.3) I have setup the vlanid and the correct username and password. (These details are working fine on a different router).

any ideas of how to troubleshoot? My provider is Plusnet Fibre UK. I have even gone as far as a factory reset and tried enabling IPV6 also as I read elsewhere that might help.

I keep getting this error:

PPPoE Connection Log
Oops! Cannot detect services.
If you are unable to dial for a long time and try many times have still not been successful. Please try the following methods:
1.Check if the Internet cable connection is normal.
2.Connect your PC to the ISP modem and make the PPPoE dialing for testing.
You shall contact your Internet Services Provider for help after both methods failed.

vlan id 101

https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/broadband-connection-settings/#what-settings-should-i-use-for-fibre-broadband

try also cloning MAC for WAN interface from provider’s router one

it works well for my neighbour (i’m on giganet, he’s on plusnet, we both use glinet routers). i am on full fibre (cityfibre), he’s on vdsl (BT OpenReach). FTTP plusnet (BT OpenReach)from what i know doesn’t use vlan tagging

Thanks Dan! I will give the mac cloaning a try. It’s strange as I can use a netgear router fine!

Still no joy! can’t get it working what so ever. :frowning:

Can you double check your mac clone? Actually we have other cases, mac clone solved the issue.

Or you can call your ISP, telling them you want to change router and ask them to refresh the modem settings.

@alzhao I have tried again and get:

My ISP has said there is no blocks and any router that supports PPPoE and vlan tagging can connect.

Settings:

Can you pls power cycle the modem?

@alzhao I tried that.

found on a Plusnet forum about FTTP PPPoE:

“Have you tried it without the VLAN enabled? This is only needed when the router is also the modem, but the ONT is now the modem.”
