PPPoE speed GL-MT6000

Hi! We have a 4Gbit fiber connection. Our provider requires PPPoE on the WAN port with VLAN tagging. Of course, the GL-MT6000 cannot saturate the link with its 2.5Gbe WAN interface, but I might be willing to forgo 1.5Gbit for getting a router with open source firmware.

I was wondering if anyone tested what the PPPoE performance with VLAN tagging is. Anywhere near 2.5Gbit?

(Surprisingly almost no vendor outside QNAP lists this.)

Hi.
I am an Italian user who has Tim as a provider and a 2.5Gbit/1Gbit FTTH profile.
I'm using the GL-MT6000 (Beta Firmware 4.7.0) as a router, and I'm using the PPPoE protocol and a VLAN tag.
My PC's network card is a "Realtek Gaming 2.5GbE Family Controller" with driver version 10.72.522.2024.
There's a speedtest screenshot

That's really great to hear! I ordered the GL-MT6000 and will report back my speeds once I get it.

Getting great performance with PPPoE and vlan tagging!

The performance is the same with the stable, beta, and open source driver firmware. So, I have a choice to make before permanently making this our main router.

As an aside, the web UI is also really nice and snappy! PPPoE was a breeze to set up.

Thanks again @MrZedS for confirming and getting me to buy this router!

Just following up, in case this is useful to someone else: my provider (KPN) recommends an MTU of 1500 on the PPPoE interface (rather than 1492), which means 1508 on the VLAN device (for the 8 byte PPPoE overhead) and 1512 on the WAN interface.

It turns out that the current stable firmware doesn't support an MTU higher than 1500 on the WAN interface (eth1), possibly due to using an older 5.x kernel. However, the native OpenWrt 24 version from GL.iNet download center does support larger MTUs. Somehow luCI rejects the values, but it work after editing /etc/config/network.

I have written all the settings up in case anyone else on KPN or a comparable provider are interested: GL.iNet routers
