I doubt that someone wants to get _optout_nomap
added to the chosen SSID...
It does not even guarantee that you don't get mapped. I would simply ignore this, tbh.
It's about the first item on their blog.
Adding a button is much easier than having to remember these words and write them ourselves.
Is it this button or not?
Enable Randomized BSSID
It will randomize the BSSID (so the "MAC" of the wireless interface) but not the name.
So if you call your router like "Misuzu Home Router" it will still get mapped by big companies.
This is about another thing.
BSSID is on the topic 3 on their blog.
I see, I get it now. Thanks!
I still wonder how they map it
Does it mean for example google goes active out to people their street to track it, or is it more that they get this data from the browser?
Me neither is fan of the appended ssid argument, because it isn't a official wifi standard, so this means these companies can decide to remove it without any notice or with a vague notice where half of the people are kept uninformed.
Luckily i use a cascaded vpn to connect on my wifi, it can still track my device but not my traffic, in the time its so much mangled through nextdns and mullvad vpn that i almost think that part is secure, but they will still find my identity regardless by tracking me with shops where i buy from and maybe some hardware uuids on the device
Wild guess: Google Streetview cars + Android.
Apple Map Cars and ios. Plus most Desktop browsers when the use positioning.
But it's better than nothing
There is no standard for this, but if some companies add an alternative, then worth to try.
@JoyceNI X760v2 (Spitz) will have this option?
@admins @moderators Mudiv2 will have it?
