I have a Beryl router, and have been using my iPhone to connect it to the internet, via a USB cable. The speed is ok, but I also need my phone, so am buying a dedicated 5G modem that I’m going to place by my window, to maximize the connection speed. In preparation for switching to this, I bought a long USB extension cable, specifically, this one. It claims to be USB 3.0 compatible, with data speeds of up to 5GBPS. When I try to tether my phone through this cable, the modem cannot connect to it, though my phone is able to charge. Has anyone had a similar problem with tethering and USB extensions? Is there a fix?
Hi
If you connect your phone to your computer using this USB cable, does the computer recognize the phone and allow data transfer normally?
Please also note that the maximum recommended length for a USB 3.0 cable is about 2–3 meters. Longer cables may only work reliably if they include built-in signal amplification chips from the manufacturer.
Good question. I checked this, and no, it doesn’t.
Thanks for the info. The cable I had was 8m. I then bought a 5m one and a 6m one. Only the 5m one worked. I’ve also ordered a 10m cable with signal amplification, so will see if that works too.
Many thanks for the advice.
