[Product request] USB dongle with LTE

Hi!

You already had a USB router.

But I want to see from you LTE USB router. Something like this

It will be tiny and comfortable to use.

Most important, I want to see AT commands support (because some crappy ISP blocks modems). And for example HUAWEI sticks is PAIN to flash IMEI or TTL change.

Also, please, do NOT go with ridiculous amount of flash (like 16 mb), at least 64. Why?

To support privacy features like BSSID rotation etc.

Also you can include SD card slot it it to make it work as flash drive (like this HUAWEI stick)

For example, SD support will help users use i in other GL products not taking precious USB slot.

And most modems are OLD and using USB 2.0 with is SUPER SLOW. I think Glinet can make better with USB 3.0

I think I should ping @alzhao here? As I know he is part of R/D?

Hi

Thank you for your suggestion.
We will submit it to the product team for consideration in our future new product development.

Hi Saki, How are you!

I’m Hoff, the product manager for the USB Dongle.

We will launch our own 4G USB Dongle in Europe tomorrow( SIMPoYo uFi (SP-N150C4) – Plug & Play 4G USB Dongle with Hotspot - GL.iNet ), and the U.S. launch is scheduled for November. We will also introduce a 5G USB Dongle in the future. May I ask which region you are located in?

At this stage, our current product may not fully meet your requirements, but we plan to add AT command support in future software updates.

The current 4G USB Dongle is equipped with 128MB RAM and 128MB flash. The system will not be open for now. Could you let us know why this part is of particular concern to you?

Regarding the BSSID randomization/rotation privacy feature, could you provide more details? Do you expect the SSID name to change periodically, or would you like the SSID wireless interface to use randomized MAC addresses?

We have removed the SD card slot because the current 4G USB Dongle is relatively low-powered, and we are also concerned about the risk of damaging customers’ SD cards. Could you let us know what kind of data you mainly plan to store on the SD card?

Our current 4G USB Dongle uses USB 2.0, and we believe higher speeds may not be meaningful at this stage. The upcoming 5G USB Dongle will use USB 3.0. We would be happy to receive more of your product feedback, and once we have the related USB Dongle ready, we would like to invite you to test it.

@Hoff SIMPoYo is fully made by GL.iNet ? or is it a partnership with another brand ?

It is a collaboration with other manufacturers. Some hardware has been optimized, and the software is customized based on our experience. In particular, a significant amount of development work has been done to ensure compatibility with GL.iNet routers.

What do you mean?

I meant BSSID (MAC) randomization not to allow tracking. Like in your regular routers. For example Beryl AX.

Because now almost all devices changes MAC to random. And getting persistent one is bad for privacy.

Can also look at local Telco products.

T-Mobile gave me a free 5G USB that has been working in mt3000.

Not in my case.

The main thing i need in this dongles is IMEI and TTL (incoming and outcoming) change to mimic smartphone.

Because some ISP blocks modems by IMEI.

Some responds with TTL 1, so router "eats" it and cannot forward to device.

Some checks if TTL is not 64 and blocks connection.

Without AT commands all this sticks for me useless.

Now I am using X750v2 as modem connected to Beryl AX via ethernet. Because only like this I can achieve stupid restrictions bypass.

Current setup is not portable. And creating triple NAT (1 ISP NAT -> X750v2 NAT -> Beryl AX NAT).

That's why i asked @Hoff to include AT commands.

1.The system will not be open for now.

Hoff: you can’t login system with ssh protocal and use linux coammand line to test, and you need use our firmware, can’t use OpenWrt firmware.

2.I meant BSSID (MAC) randomization not to allow tracking. Like in your regular routers. For example Beryl AX.

Hoff: OK, got it, I will evaluate adding this feature in the next software version.

About AT command to change IMEI or TTL, I know this requirement, and will add this function in the next software version.

Do you mean this product? this is recap, the highest speed just up to DL 220 Mbps/UL 120 Mbps

That's bad. Because there won't be VPN support. Or it is too weak to handle VPN?

Super!

When it will be available for purchase?

It works as stick? Or as external network interface?

It will support Wireguard VPN, we are developing.

Today, you can purchase it.

It works as stick, it can connect the 4G internet, support wifi, connect GL.iNet router USB port and provide network data.

I don’t see it on the GL.iNet shop ?

That is the item I am using. I’ll report if it works long term or not. I’ve used a number of LTE usb modems for decades on routers.

Hello.

Can I use my local mobile service provider’s physical SIM card with SIMPoYo?

Thanks,
Balazs

Yes i need also to know this, on the pictures i can see a nano sim…
