I want to get the wlan signal from my travel router gl-mt3000 (base) upstairs via a Fritzbox 7170 (repeater). I set the repeater to 192.168.8.111, both have the same ssid and passkey set but only the router does have mobile internet. Why does my travel router not recognize the repeater or the repeater the travel router?
Are you talking about why they don't show up in Fritz!Box mesh?
Because it is not supported by non AVM devices.
For enabling repeater mode you need to connect the repeater to your main Wi-Fi.
I wish I could but the only main wi-fi here is the one I brought with me - GL-MT3000 my travel internet
I don't really understand what you are trying to achieve. Can you explain a bit more?
Did you ask how to configure the Fritzbox 7170 repeater? Try to find Fritzbox its docs guide.
Thanks for having a look into the issue, I appreciate.
It is very simple. I have my router which is connected via my cell phone to the internet but at the place I am right now the wifi signal from it doesn‘t reach the second floor. This building has no other wifi. So I found an old 7170 and want to use him as a repeater so the folks upstairs can watch netflix. I configured 7170 as a repeater but I have no idea how to tell my router to recognize him as a repeater.
You don't. That's not how repeaters work.
You need to tell your 7170 that she will repeat the Wi-Fi of your GL router - that's all.
It keeps saying „no internet“ upstairs so I kind of don‘t know if this even works. I can log into 7170 when I plug off my router and when I plug off 7170 I can login to the admin panel of my router but that is all I can do.
Please beware that they can't have the same IP address.
Without exactly knowing what you are doing, troubleshooting is very difficult.
You need to provide all information about your router and the 7170. Include the IP addresses as well.
