i use a Slate7 travel router that broadcasts two 5G networks: 5G/BE and 5G-backhaul/AX. The two Slate7 networks are on the same LAN and communicate with one another. I have a BerylAX travel router that I’d like to use to connect a camera signal (300ft distance) to Slate7’s 5G-backhaul network. i’d like to use the Beryl 2.4G network to receive the camera signal (3 feet from router) and have the Beryl send the camera signal to the Slate7 via the 5G-backhaul. But, i’m struggling to get the Beryl configuration correct. Any advice?
FWIW, i’ve tried several repeater and extender configurations on the Beryl, including LUCI programming. But I always have trouble when the Bery’s 2.4G and 5G networks are combined on the Beryl LAN. Is there a simple way to accomplish this?
Hi
Regarding your requirements:
-
If the camera does not rely on Layer 2 connectivity, we recommend configuring the Beryl AX in Repeater mode to connect to the 5G backhaul. Then, connect the camera to the Beryl AX’s 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
-
If the camera does require Layer 2 operation, you may consider to use the Extender mode.
sounds great but the default setting doesn’t share the camera signal on the 2.4G network with the 5G backhaul network. what are the LUCI settings to get this to happen?
Have you had a chance to test Extender Mode as previously mentioned?
When operating in Extender Mode, the Beryl AX should relay to the Slate 7 network, so all clients — including cameras — obtain their IP addresses from the Slate 7 DHCP server and remain in the same Layer-3 subnet.
thanks for adding the comments. So, here’s my setup: Slate 7 main router hard-wired to starlink. I have an ipad and three nearby cameras (90ft) connected to the slate7 (5G, channel 149, 80 Mhz). i’d like to add a fourth camera (300 ft away) to the slate7 network by using the BerlyAX to connect to the slate7 2.4G backhaul channel (channel 1 at 20 Mhz.) i’m struggling to get the programming right so that the fourth camera appears on the slate7 network. i’m sure I’m overlooking something simple but i’ve tried probably 20 different luci programming setups and can’t seem to get it right. maybe simpler is better. any input would be much appreciated.
Thank you for updating your configuration.
Could you help clarify our earlier question—have you already tested Extender Mode?
You can enable it in the Admin Panel under Network > Network Mode.
Since many custom LuCI rules are currently applied/been tested, we recommend performing a factory reset before switching to this mode to avoid configuration conflicts.
If you have tried it but it did not work as expected, please let us know the outcome.
Additionally, could you describe how your camera is intended to operate?
For example, does the app require you to manually enter the camera’s IP address, or does it rely on automatic discovery within the network?
