Right way to backup Router data for Update

Hello, I get frustrated every time I install a firmware update because all my packages and binary daemons are deleted. Is there any instruction on how I can backup all my data to preserve installed packages and the /overlay?

You need to add all files you want to keep to /etc/sysupgrade.conf

Thanks this is it! So what /dir i need add to save installed package? just /overlay ?

Adding /overlay would crash something, I would say.

It depends on your installed package. Best way would be by just trying to save the config and reinstall the package later.
