Same firmware with different status

Why GL-MT3000 (Beryl AX) has the firmware 4.6.4 (4th/Sep) as stable and GL-MT6000 (Flint 2) has the version 4.6.4 (5th/Sep) as Release Canditate / Beta and both firmwares says:

Supported Models:

GL-AX1800, GL-AXT1800, GL-MT2500/GL-MT2500A, GL-MT3000, GL-MT6000.

A few possibilities come to mind: last-minute bugs or a failed compile, perhaps?

Overall, it doesn't sound too serious. Grab a coffee and wait a few more hours/days.

I have noticed this for more than a week...

They are not the same hardware, their firmware also not the same, their release time is not the same.

But both firmware are saying:

Supported Models:

GL-AX1800, GL-AXT1800, GL-MT2500/GL-MT2500A, GL-MT3000, GL-MT6000.

You could ask the same about the XE3000 and the X3000 as they are all filogic chipsets.

What it ultimately comes down to is that the MT3000 and the MT2500 are very similar in hardware, they only have single WAN and LAN, USB A, and are powered via USB C, one has WiFi, one has 8GB EMMC.

The MT6000 is far more complicated from a hardware viewpoint.

Though there is something really flawed on this

If someone is new, his thought process might say hey this firmware is also compatible with mine router.

So he flashed MT3000 firmware on the mt2500 although it might brick due to the difference in partitions, or wifi breaks alot of things can go wrong often its not the same hardware.

I get it, the notes likely are automated and very generic targeted to the GL SDK and for which versions the sdk is supported, the version is compatible but that text can confuse people enough to flash it wrongly, the gl sdk is only the propertairy code added to openwrts base like the ui, scripts and functions that is what compatible, but it says nothing about openwrt or Linux itself

Each router has its own firmware category and version, it always has to be compiled against the correct target and exact hardware layout.

agreed, the GL-iNet firmware naming convention is flawed.

The meaning of this sentence is that these update codes will be synchronized in the firmware of GL-AX1800, GL-AXT1800, GL-MT2500/GL-MT2500A, GL-MT3000, and GL-MT6000.

However, the firmware of each model is different, and it have to flash the corresponding model firmware.

Thanks, but when you say the supported models are GL-AX1800, GL-AXT1800, GL-MT2500/GL-MT2500A, GL-MT3000, and GL-MT6000, there is a huge chance I download a single firmware and try to install it in all thse 5 models :frowning:

I know what you mean, but if i give this to my $Other'Person (e.g. mother,...) then she could read it wrong and try to flash this on the wrong hardware. Maybe explain it better or simply remove this part. Maybe Version x.x.x will be available on these models. Then make a link to these models?
