Seeking advice on residential setup

I’m looking to replace our ISP’s hardware. We have a 2-story house with the router downstairs and a wired AP upstairs. I think I’ve settled on a Flint 2 for the router. For the AP, I could just get a 2nd Flint 2, or I have a Netgear R7800 and a R7000 laying around. I was thinking I could just put vanilla OpenWRT on one of those for the upstairs AP. Our internet service is symmetric 1 Gb fiber.

I’m looking for input on these configuration options. The Flint 2 isn’t expensive, but if one of the old Netgears will suffice as a dumb AP, I’d rather save the money.

Just have a Flint2 as the main router to save money, other one has any brand router of Vanilla OpenWRT.
