Setting up PIA OpenVPN with issues

Just bought a GL-SFT1200. I'm trying to configure OpenVPN via Private Internet Access. I downloaded an .ovpn file from the site. The router says it successfully loaded. It's stuck when it's trying to connect. The logs say something about an AUTH failure and some other lines. I read that for another VPN provider that they needed a completely different login credential that differs from the provider's regular account login. Is that the same with PIA? I've been using my regular credentials in the settings.

Appreciate any guidance with this.

Did you upgrade your Opal to the newest firmware already? It seems that PIA disabled old OpenVPN clients - at least this is something I read often.

Newest firmware: GL.iNet download center

I updated the firmware before I did any configurations.

There's an entire page on PIA dedicated to downloading an OpenVPN configuration. I pick the version of OVPN (either "2.4 or newer" or "2.3 or older"), the platform (Windows, Mac, Linux, Android), the region (i.e. the server like Canada / Montreal or USA / California), and the port. I was using UDP/1198 with an RSA-2048 / AES-128-CBC / SHA1 to start.

Does the port matter when it comes to making it work on my router?

Don't think so. Auth failed is usualy exactly what it says: The authentication failed.

And just to clarify. When it prompted me for the "platform" I should be picking Linux, correct?

Can't tell for sure because I don't know PIA.
Try others as well, maybe this will help.

Figured out I was using the Windows configuration and not the Linux one. I could have swore I clicked Linux first. Seems to work fine now.

One last question - Is there no "power off" option when I need to pack it up? Or is it actually safe just to completely unplug the USB cable that powers it?

No power off, you are right. Just unplug it - it's fine.

Ok. Appreciate your help!
