SIM Registration Suggestions of Mudi7/GL-E5800 for Parts of Europe

Dear GL.iNet Customers,

We have received reports from Mudi7/GL-E5800 users that SIM card registration and connection may fail in some parts of Europe.
After investigation, this issue is caused by local carrier towers that do not fully support the 3GPP R17 UE capability set, resulting in abnormal SIM registration on Mudi7/GL-E5800.

Below are two temporary workarounds to restore normal internet connection. Our R&D team is developing an official fix via upcoming firmware upgrade.

Workaround

Option 1: Keep R17 and mask LTE B1 / B3

  1. Log in to admin panel > INTERNET > Cellular > SIM Card Settings

  2. Enable Band Masking, then mask LTE B1 or LTE B3.

Option 2: Switch UE capability to R15

  1. Log in to the device admin panel > INTERNET > Cellular > Modem AT Command

  2. Enter and execute the AT command below one by one to set 3GPP release to R15:

AT+QNWCFG="3gpp_rel",r15,r15
AT+QEFSSYNC=1
AT+CFUN=1,1

Note: You can switch back to R17 anytime using the same AT command:

AT+QNWCFG="3gpp_rel",r17,r17
AT+QEFSSYNC=1
AT+CFUN=1,1

Firmware Update Plan

A new firmware will be released in early June, which adds support for modem capability configuration in the Web UI, and optimizes compatibility with towers in the affected European regions.

Hi,
I tried the fix with the AT commands and removed hte blocking of LTE Band 3.
For me it doesn’t fix the problem with Telekom SIM Germany :frowning:

Best regards
Christian

5G on o2 Germany also not working

Hi all,

band masking is partially resolving the SIM Registration issues, AT Commands doesn’t solve the issue.

Thanks!

Hi, for me also band masking at LTE B3 solves the issue but not the mentioned AT command. I am on Telekom DE

Hi

I’m on Telekom Deutschland as well.

Blocking LTE B3 alone does not solve it, but blocking LTE B1 + B3 does.

May depend on the tower, currently I’m on the countryside. In the city and only blocking B3 I did also not notice any improvement.

Hi @Veux @mux ,

Is there any error message displayed under Cellular section? Could you please check if you can download the modem log and send to me for analysis?

Hi everyone,

Location: Germany

Try to block Band 1, this solution helped me

Same problem in Orange Polska (Poland). Masking bands and changing R17 to R15 without success.

I’ve tried the AT commands, and removed the B3 masking, and so far the connection seems stable with my MVNO using the Orange network in france :+1:

Here in Italy, the two SIM cards I use work, but the router doesn't handle 4G/5G very well. With one carrier, when I set it to “Auto,” it switches correctly, but with the other, it doesn't. If I set it to ‘Auto’ or “5G,” it won't connect anymore; it only connects when set to “4G,” even though the SIM card supports 5G. I hope that makes sense and is helpful. Massimo

I confirm what you said, same situation for me in Italy.

It seems that in Italy the issue is related mainly to Vodafone IT (based on my experience). With TIM no issue, with iliad sometimes.

Currently in Germany. I have both Nomad and Airalo eSIMs loaded into my Mudi 7 (NA version).

Don’t have B1 or B3 to block. Tried changing to R15 and that didn’t work either.

This whole situation is getting very frustrating!

any other suggestions to try?

You are using the NA Version in Germany?
If you compare the used bands in Germany (4G/5G: B/N1, B/N3, B8, B20, N28, N38, N78) and the supported bands for the NA Version of the Mudi7, I only see one band in common: N78.

This is a 3.6 GHz band used only in metropolitan areas with high traffic; and I am not an expert how roaming SIM behave regarding 5G SA. Many only use 5G NSA in conjunction with a 4G anker and won’t connect to N78 without it.

Having the same issue with Orange in Romania, I've tried blocking B1 and B3 as others suggested, no success.
