Hi folks,

I'm writing up the exact steps how I managed to have my new 3rd party router 'marble B3000' from GLiNet to work with SKY's authentication DHCP 61.

This is not your typical MER option for DHCP 61 because the B3000 does not support this feature and SKY have been defiant and rude to say the least.

SKY's discussion forum will openly stress that the username and password will always be
Username:anything@skydsl
Pass: anything
And in some cases, you may need to add in the DHCP Client ID: anything@skydsl|anything

None of these methods work, and avoid talking about hex code's to the "experts" cos it seems this is taboo subject and not encouraged by any of them.

Here is the method that DOES work

The router of choice is the new 'marble b-3000' home router

First, go to this address String to Hex Online Converter | String Functions

In the top box enter SKY's authentication string, anything@skydsl|anything
The encoded string in the box below should read a bunch of decimal values: 616e797468696e6740736b7964736c7c616e797468696e67
Copy this value and proceed to the following

  • Log into your Admin page, 192.168.8.1
  • On the left side click on system, then advanced settings. Then click on the small hyperlink in blue called (192.168.8.1/cgi-bin/luci)
  • You will need to log in again and this time you will be brought into Luci's admin interface
  • Go to Network > Interface > WAN > Edit > Advanced Settings
    Now paste the copied value hex string into the Client ID to send when requesting DHCP
  • Click save and it should connect you. I reboot the router to be safe

Remember, you can change the anything@skydsl|anything to something like, skysucks@skydsl|skysucks

Hi

Just joined the forum, I have a question about the above solution. My friend has a Flint 2 and Sky broadband, we followed the instructions as detailed and was able to connect successfully. The wan now has a 2.121 sky ip, and it shows as connected on the admin panel, however we are unable to open any web pages. Am I missing something? He does have the VON server running, along with a nordvpn client on the laptop we are using. Iā€™m thinking maybe factory reset the router and start from scratch

Check if ping and nslookup does work.

Now resolved, resetting flint did the trick
