I recently ordered the GL.iNet Slate 7 (GL-BE3600) router from a seller in europe but received a device configured for the CN region.
This is an issue for me as :
-VPN is not available
-Some other features are blocked
-Wifi Channels and frequencies are different
-etc ...
I know that there are some methods to change the region in the routers. I have dumped the memory and found the country code is located in /dev/mtdblock0 and /dev/mtdblock11
I could change it but as I wouldn't like to brick my device, is there some standard way that would help me to change the country code to EU (US would probably be acceptable as well) so that my router becomes usable ? Right now I can't do anything I intended to purchase the router for
I don't want to modify it at the application level, so I'm not interested in the changes in luci, wireless or /proc/gl-hw-info/country_code and alike, I'm looking for a real modification at the hardware level
I've got a claim opened with the seller at the moment but I am not sure he will accept that I return the router or not, so I'd rather do that myself
Thanks in advance if you can help me and avoid a big headache !
Not sure if anything is possible to change the region firmware.
There was a statement released a while back about devices sold from china, it states that the devices will have different features set (No VPN etc). I guess your problem lies with purchasing from a dishonest 3rd party
