I just finished setting up the BE10000 on my network. I was a die-hard fan of the MT3000, and the Slate 7 had disappointed me with its poor performance, native IPv6 issues, and various bugs due to its immature firmware—perhaps because of the attempt to switch to OWRT 23. So, reading that the Pro is based on OWRT 21, on which GL runs smoothly, convinced me.
Performance is excellent; you can make the most of the 2.5G WAN, even over Wi-Fi, just like with the MT3000. I haven’t tried native IPv6 because I no longer need it, but damn... it must be a coincidence that to set up the NordVPN token and download the config, as well as to download the list of encrypted DNS servers, you have to temporarily disable IPv6. Error 2001214 for the VPN, and a problem fetching the DNS list.
And then there are the packages—they’re really limited. I’ll have to add a repo (maybe from the MT3000) at least for a Nano editor and SFTP. Still, I’m satisfied, considering that some issues with the initial firmware version are to be expected.
I ran a speed test with a local VPN server—without testing more central ones—and it exceeds 600M/600M, double that of the MT3000. That’s enough to consider keeping the VPN permanently, and this alone justifies the price difference between the two.
