On a travel router? What places do you stay in that has 10G?
I'm looking for small and low power.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, gl.inet haven't made a true travel sized router since the AR300M which must be fast approaching a decade old. AR300M will easily fit in your jeans pockets along with phone, wallet, keys etc etc, nothing released since comes anywhere close to that portability inc wifi The newer models are so big they don't even fit in a pocket especially in the mandatory case to stop the flimsy aerial design snapping off...
Mango is still usable though?
Yes Mango and Shadow are still available and 'usable' although they are around a decade old now and really showing it, so very very slow compared to what newer chips can provide (I ignored Mango originally since it is even older and slower than Shadow).
Gl.inet customers would benefit far more from an updated device of the Mango/Shadow form factor than yet another near identical device to what they already make (ok this new one has wifi 7 vs wifi 6 but if you consider this is meant to be a travel product where you're probably in a small hotel room limited by poor/no mobile reception and likely 30mbps max hotel wifi (if you're lucky) then I'd be amazed if there was a scenario where wifi 6 wouldn't have covered it more than adequately already).
Some people will buy again just for bragging rights of wifi 7 regardless of whether they need it or not so I do understand the new product release to some degree but for the majority they're just cannibalising sales from other devices rather than generating actual new business. Just seems an odd choice they keep releasing such products with tiny incremental improvements whilst completely ignoring an entire product line.
A refreshed Shadow mk2 for instance utilising the same case (with cpu capable of at least 40-50mbps openvpn and say ac1200 wifi (let's be realistic given the small dimensions) would add far more to the gl.inet product offering and a far higher chance of generating genuinely new business and income), that spec should be more than doable in this form factor as a mk2 a decade after the mk1, maybe they can do even better. The original shadow still sells well enough for gl.inet to keep it as a current product (despite the fact it's so slow it's sadly no longer a viable choice for many who would love to use it but can no longer) so there's certainly demand for an updated faster refresh. If using a mid range chip/ac1200 (or similar) wifi to keep within heat/size constraints of the shadow case then it wouldn't cost too much to manufacture either vs latest fastest chip and wifi 7, win/win for gl.inet and the customer.
I hope for a long life for all my USB150s. The best travel router ever!
Something in the size and specs of the Friendlyelec nanopi r5c with GL iNet firmware would be nice. A little bit bigger than my Shadow, smaller then my Slate, with great specs.
USB150 with a 2.4 ax only chipset would tick so many boxes.
I'd really like to see them keep to the Shadow dimensions, if it was possible back then it's certainly possible now especially given the relatively minor spec improvements it would need to still pack a punch and be totally unique in gl.inet's product line up (faster the better of course but as the size creeps up the entire point of the product existing is quickly eroded).
The Brume 2 seems close to Shadow dimensions on paper but in reality is nearly 50% bigger in volume, doesn't have official wifi (although mt76 wifi dongle has been shown to work, pity gl.inet crippled the wifi pages so they don't work correctly) - this wouldn't be the worlds worst starting point if they just added internal wifi to that existing product but I know they could do far better if they really tried to create something with 'smallest size possible' being the main product criteria...
USB150 was a nice device but too limiting, I need 2x ethernet so USB150 was never any good to me, as a concept it was nice though (was also extremely slow, 7mbps theoretic max openvpn speed is no good for anything). The Shadow is still the pinnacle of anything gl.inet have achieved before or since, never thought I'd still be saying that nearly a decade after first buying one.
I have been lucky to own and use most of the GL.iNET lineup of routers. The only reason I would buy GL.iNET again nowadays is the very decent WiFi gain that they have in relationships to their size. The Beryl AX has the best WiFi gain/router size ratio which is absolutely vital for a travel router in my opinion. For me, this is absolutely the last distinguishing feature that separate these routers from their close competitors.
Lastimosa, I'm interested in who you would see as the competitors please?
Thanks
@genki For a home router, I have retired my Flint 2 in preference for the UCG-Ultra. For my camper, I prefer the Teltonika line of routers. For my casual travels, I still use the Beryl AX.
Ah ok got it. I'm familiar with the Teltonika routers for cellular but haven't really played with the Ubiquity stuff.
Thanks
Passive cooling please, micro SD card Slot, and a MediaTek chip
Excited about the Slate 7!
You’re looking too much into it. it’s just a logo light
I happened to see it now being added to the Beta Testing Program!
crossing fingers it works with GL-M2 5G Development Board - GL.iNet
Thank you! I was waiting for this. Do you know when they released the program for the Slate 7 exactly? I hope it's not too late to sign up.
I honestly do not know when they released the beta testing program for the Slate 7. I also do not know how beta-testers are selected; I therefore also do not know if it is first-come-first-serve.
Haha, ok ok, thank you for your reply😂
I can see on the website that Flint 3 (BE9300) is now also upcoming
