Slate 7

oh an mpi slot?

Disappointing seeing the size. The Slate Plus is pushing the limits of my tech pouch. Was hoping for smaller. Won’t be upgrading.

It's not massive, it's as small as a pack of cigarettes.
Really impressive for such a modern device.

That’s all well and good in theory, but the problem is it’s much larger than its predecessors from the images.

But it also provides more power and features than the predecessors... That's life.
I will travel on light package with my Slate Plus, too.

But I could imagine a lot of use cases for the Slate 7 for traveling with car in hotels as well.
One example: If you are sitting on a conference table and want to provide for a bunch of people fast an access point, just let them scan the QR at the front display. Done.

If you don't need it, okay, don't buy it. I would be happy to use the additional features.

Much larger? I don't really think so.

Slate AX: 125 x 82 x 36mm - volume 369000 cubic mm, weight: 245g

How are you going to take advantage of Wifi 7 while traveling??

The difference is nearly non-existing, in my opinion.

Weight might be something, but the form factor is mostly the same.

I would buy the Slate 7 in a heart beat if it was close to the size of a pack of cigarettes

Doing a bit of Googling, as I don’t smoke, a standard US cigarette pack containing 20 cigarettes has dimensions around 85 mm, 55 mm, 22 mm and weighs around 30 grams.
The Slate 7: 130mm, 91mm, 34mm and weighs 295 grams plus power supply. Not even close in size.

So just don't buy it then, lol.

Agreed. I don't think the size is too big for a quad core, 1 gig of RAM and WiFi 7.

It's fairly small and a marvel of engineering. Kind of amazing that they're able to fit all that inside a small package. I give kudos to the development team.

Oh, no worries, I was just highlighting how your size comparison missed the mark by a mile. :straight_ruler::sweat_smile:

Maybe it's a difference between US and EU cigs.

Not a smoker here, so I don't know, tbh.

Just for the processing power. Not necessarily for wifi 7.

And why do you need that much processing power why traveling? What is it that Slate 7 can do that Beryl AX or Slate AX can't do with their CPU/s??

I don’t really need to elaborate tbh. It’s really none of your business. Sometimes it’s just nice to get a new device.

:scream:
You have a the whole team there   :joy:

I give my old ones away

VPN processing power perhaps?

Ah, the 'Slate 7' – because nothing says 'travel router' like a brick!

The original Slate (100x68x24mm, 86g) was sleek enough to toss in a pocket, but the Slate 7 (130x91x34mm, 295g) is basically a Wi-Fi-enabled paperweight. Progress, right? Who doesn’t want to lug around a router that’s 3.5x heavier and 30% chunkier in every dimension? Perfect for airport security to mistake for a suspiciously dense slab of tech.

And hey, why stop there? Let’s axe the SD card slot (because travelers hate local storage) and downgrade from 3 Ethernet ports to 2. Fewer ports = fewer problems. :upside_down_face: The original Slate had versatility; the Slate 7 has… uh… boldness in its sheer refusal to be practical. It is reported to have a tiny display, so maybe we can stream the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on it, to justify its size.

Ah yes, GL iNet is redefining “travel router” to mean “something you need a separate bag for.” Bravo!

Long live my USB150! Long live my AR300M! Long live my AR750 and AR750S-EXT!
The great small travel routers from GL iNet

Given the amount of features the upcoming Slate 7 offers (even a touch screen display), the slight increase in size and weight is inevitable, though in the grand scheme of things, still very much pocketable.
