Slate AX and no more VPN active shown even tho it is active

don’t know when it happened. Am now on 4.8.3 (22.4.2026). The VPN is up but in the dashboard, it will not show that the VPN is active. The Wireguard client will also show “start” even though i can clearly use all the routes (verified with a client only connected to the Slate). The behavior stays the same after reboot, long waiting and toggling back and forth the switch on the device. In other words, the device is not recognizing the VPN is up and does not give the blue dot to the connection (but the “ON” switch in the VPN dashboard is on).

I have already restored backup of the config (from within Lucid) and the firmware. The behavior also occurs with 4.8.4 and 4.9.0 (Snapshot).

Any thoughts?

From your description, it sounds like the WireGuard tunnel itself is actually working, the issue appears to be that the GL.iNet Admin Panel is not correctly detecting or displaying the WireGuard client status.

Please try the following checks:

  1. Open the Admin Panel in a private/incognito browser window, preferably using Chrome or Edge.
  2. Please try upgrading the firmware again through the Admin Panel->system->upgrade, then test the WireGuard client status once more after the router reboots.
