Slate AX firmware with kernel 5.4 is available

I tried to upgrade with settings that seems to fail networking wise.

but then I applied a reset and the UI stopped working after I had set my password.

luckily I got output from the logread perhaps its anything usefull?

edit to add: also the leds is blinking strange.

logread:
data.zip (13.9 KB)

dmesg (kernel log):
dmesg.zip (10.3 KB)

Edit tested by upgrading without keeping the settings:

the web UI keeps timing out after setting the password, also luci seems not to be accessible once the UI becomes unresponsive, the led lighting is flashing strangely.

it seems the demsg logs show something about failing to load or mount something about the wifi driver:

I updated from 4.0.1 pre-release 2.

Updated without settings. It’s ok.
I’m testing…
IOS app recognizes only online status, nothing other…

Installed, testing, so far so good. (it’s better NOT to keep settings when upgrade)

For me the new kernel makes everything feel sluggish. The UI is slower to load for me, and general connections felt slower to load with clean firmware installs with the exact same light config (static routes, vpn, adguard etc) nothing that would break the networking.

My laptop also falls back to Wifi 4 (N) when using the new kernel and 2.4ghz, it will not find the 5ghz wifi at all.

4.0.1 beta 1:

Kernel 5.4:

More testing is needed i think for general users

new 5.4 kernel

  • tried upgrade with keep settings failed. (I always test this now and still wipe firmware

  • opkg update from shell yields

  • from gli-gui asks to upgrade to 4.0.0

  • AdGuard ‘settings’ connects over http but not https over port 3000 ( believe something has changed in Version: v0.107.8 that causes this.)

yes, I can second above “syndrome” except that I don’t run AGH on my Slate AX.

After upgrading my phone won’t connect to 5Ghz Wifi: It says that the AP at the moment is full.
On log I have this repeated tens of times:

Sun Jul 31 07:55:21 2022 kern.warn kernel: [52974.839786] ath11k c000000.wifi: Failed to add peer: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx for VDEV: 1

Sun Jul 31 07:55:21 2022 daemon.notice hostapd: wlan0: STA xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx IEEE 802.11: Could not add STA to kernel driver

And also on Kernel log:

[52974.839786] ath11k c000000.wifi: Failed to add peer: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx for VDEV: 1
[52974.839828] ath11k c000000.wifi: Failed to add station: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx for VDEV: 1

My PC and other devices meanwhile are connecting to 5Ghz without problems…

I am not sure whats going on, but now I have this message after I installed it yesterday, I just checked this morning and I noticed this

did anyone get this?

Everyone installed 5.4 firmware get this update message

Was fine for few hours but device has been going unresponsive a few times and unable to access the web admin panel, I’ve been connected via ethernet cable using it in repeater mode, after removing power and powering it back on, it has factory reset itself, unable to get the logs, this is on 4.0.1 release3.

Gone back to 4.0.1 release2.

Further to the issue, there is a problem with adguardhome, maybe the filters list is too much for it to handle, I’m not 100% sure but after enabling the filters it went unresponsive, rebooted, however it didn’t factory reset this time.

When will you release an update for the ax1800?

Mine seems to be working ok for the last 24h. Will update if any issue.
With adguard + openvpn.
However fan is not enabled, while 4.0.1 release2 I think had fan enabled.

My router has been working for the third day with this firmware and so far I have not noticed any problems with it.

@alzhao and the other great GL.Inet employees, thank you so much for finally releasing the 5.4 kernel.

They’re working on releasing the official build for the GL-AX1800. This might take some time, there is no official eta yet.

when will there be an update on the 5.4 firmware? it’s been almost a year since its last release. any reasons why it is delayed? i care specifically for AXT1800

We don’t have a plan to use 5.4 yet.

You can refer to GL-iNet AX1800 OpenWrt firmware - #208 by motox22a for 5.4 kernel.

@solidus1983 is working on both AX1800 and AXT1800.

Thanks. Link seems broken.

Also a timeline on transition to 5.4 would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I post the wrong link. I just updated it.

We don’t have a timeline to upgrade to 5.4 kernel. Tested and found there are still some issues. We are waiting for update from this project GitHub - Telecominfraproject/wlan-ap

That link is to my personal webserver, which is on a dynamic IP using a ddns service, hosted on my personal home lab server so it will go down from time to time for updates, up changes etc it’s also for kernel 5.15 and not 5.4.

Important note to people whom are flashing this firmware, please use the images from the snapshots folder and not experimental folder as the latter is for testing and can lead to soft bricks.

I will update the Webpage with better instructions of the weekend.

Any update on this? There is activity in the repo, so I was wondering if the issue is already solved.
