I have a Flint 2 & two Slate AX Router. my ISP is Comporium fiber; general speeds are download around 400-500 Mbps and Upload around 150 - 300 Mbps.
Configured Flint 2 as Wireguard Server, Enabled Dynamic DNS, Port # 51820.
Generated the two wireguard clients from my Wireguard Server (Flint 2), and uploaded them to two travel routers as below.
Wireguard client 1 is in another state in the USA - Slate AX router.
Wireguard client 2 is in another country (India) - Slate AX router.
Wireguard Client 1 in the USA is working as expected and showing my home IP, download speed is around 150-300 MBPS after changing MTU to 1380 on Wireguard Server/Flint 2.
Wireguard Client 2 is in India, connecting to the wireguard server in the USA for Home IP. I am getting only 10 Mbps download and 1 Mbps upload.
How to debug and improve the speed.
Below is the sample config file
[Interface]
Address = 10.0.0.4/24
PrivateKey = XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
DNS = 208.104.244.45
MTU = 1380
The speed drop in VPN connections after crossing borders or based on different regions.
Data transmission across borders involves passing through multiple network devices and covering longer physical distances, which increases latency and reduces data transfer speeds.
Cross-border connections often require traversing multiple relay stations and nodes, and the conditions of these relays, network congestion, etc., can impact data transfer rates.
VPN connections encrypt and decrypt data using algorithms, which consumes computational resources. This process may introduce additional latency, particularly noticeable in cross-border connections.
Some countries or regions may impose restrictions or surveillance on international internet traffic, leading to reduced speeds for cross-border VPN connections.
Some ISPs may throttle international traffic, affecting the speed of cross-border VPN connections.
Variations in the quality of internet infrastructure across different countries or regions can affect data transfer speeds. Some regions may have more congested or less stable networks.
if the reasons u have mentioned effect the speed that much, how come below option is working.
I took spectrum residential static IP from torguard for tampa and texas location with wireguard tunnel.
When i upload the wireguard config related to above residential IP from Torguard in both Slate Glnet Routers in USA & India as wireguard clienr from the same exact locations i was testing before i am able to get good download and upload speed around 100-150 mbps.
This issue is happening only with wireguard server client approach to use home IP.
can someone who had tried similar setup from different countries, please help me if u have faced similar issue ?
