Slate AX offered new firmware 4.4.5 but then it fails

In the UI coming from 4.2.3 r5

it offered an update to 4.4.5

Applying it from the GUI then fails.

This is not reflected in GL.iNet download center

Confirming same 4.4.5 upgrade alert on Beryl AX MT-3000, listed on download centre as stable release, and alerts as ‘not official released firmware’ on upgrade attempt.

A version jump from 4.2.3 to 4.4.5 as ‘stable’ is somewhat suspicious to me, as is release date of 11 August 2023 and notice 24 August 2023, but I do not have insider knowledge if this is a valid concern.

Can I please ask forum mods or firmware devs in the community to confirm if:

a) 4.4.5 firmware has a release signing issue that is known, will be resolved, and is safe for install,

or,

b) 4.4.5 firmware is of unknown or unconfirmed origin, and if so, the security risk and actions advised.

I just installed the 4.4.5 build from download centre, and it worked (with not official released firmware warning again).

I will now downgrade to 4.2.3 until authenticity and security is confirmed.

If this topic is in another post thread I have missed, please feel free to link. Thank you @mfld for your original post.

The uploaded file is corrupted and the signature check fails. It will be corrected soon。

Ah there. Fears of supply chain attack have been put to rest.

I got the same message at my Flint GL-AX1800

Works now, just did it on my Slate AX.

Hello, I also have updated my Slate AX without issues.

Best regards.

upgraded slateax, now this:

root@GL-AXT1800:~# opkg install python3-paramiko

I installed this update and have spent the past few hours pulling my hair out from the endless errors it created. Upon installation I was locked out of wifi even with the correct password, had to physical reset several times and lost over 400 custom VPN configs :ok_hand:

I also have these messages about no valid architecture, even if package installation succeeded:

Also, what is this package?

Hello, I have the same issue:

Regards.

Please ignore the update of this Package, and operate the Refresh button in the upper right corner of the Plug-ins page, and this problem will be fixed naturally.

What is going on? My GL-MT3000 Beryl AX updated itself overnight?
I tried to update manually several times yesterday and it always failed. After I stopped trying I also checked and it was still the wrong sha256 checksum for 4.4.5 in the Download Center.

Checked the file again on my local machine and the checksum is now correct.

Or is this just the expected behaviour now?

So there is “openwrt-axt1800-4.4.5-0811-1691742281” and then “openwrt-mt3000-4.4.5-0811-1691754744” which were both released as stable!. Which is the actually the correct version to use?? or are they both dysfunctional???

Both don’t work. Its all going to s#*+. I’m now getting random wifi dropouts too so look forward to that

Initially it was 4.4.5-0811-1691742281 that was available first. Yesterday it had changed to 4.4.5-0811-1691754744 and now we are back to 4.4.5-0811-1691754744 on the download page (albeit with a different SHA256 than the one from a couple of days back). What is going on here and can some one please make their minds up??!! Three different versions of the so called “stable version” on 3 different days!

Not only that…
The beta firmware for Slate AX on the download page (openwrt-axt1800-4.2.3-0801-1690857361.tar) is not a beta firmware but a snapshot one, and it’s completely broken (it even reset wifi password with the old “goodlife” one) and it’s there from days…

I really think that someone from development has completely lost the plot.
