Slow Exit Node Performance

I have two computers on two separate networks both on 1gb/s connections confirmed speeds. The exit node is running on a pi5 with 8gb ram.

  • When I connect my laptop directly to the ethernet port, and enable tailscale with the exit node I get ~ 200Mb/s connection speed.
  • When I connect the exact same ethernet to my GL-MT3000 I get anywhere between 7 and 15 Mb/s.

Running the tailscale client 1.78.1 on the GL-MT3000, same version on the exit node.

I downgraded the Admin Panel from 4.7 to 4.5.16, and now I consistently get 70Mb/s.

I read from others that they were able to get around the 150Mb/s with the GL-MT3000.

Any settings to pay attention to? Anything to enable / disable etc?

70Mb/s is "ok", but only a third of what I get when connecting my laptop directly to the exit node using the same network environment. My laptop is connected directly to the GL-MT3000 with a cable and when not enabling the exit node, I consistently get 950Mb/s ... so it is definitely the connection to the exit node through the router.

GL firmware downgrade means that the Tailscale version also older version? Or also manually upgraded the Tailscale version separate on 4.5.16?

It may have something to do with the network situation and software version.
You can try others more Tailscale versions.

Like said that the GL firmware does not limit the speed limit of the Tailscale interface. As long as situation allows, it will work at the maximum rate on the router network.
