I am using AXT1800 in repeater and ethernet mode connected to hotel router.
Works both with openvpn back to us and without.
Worked fine for first few days for tv streaming and android cell.
Currently when i connect to ATX1800 i grt internet and enail but cannont send sms text.
This is both with openvpn and without.
I get an icon on phone of circle with diagonal line which i think means " do not disturb". However, i do not have that confugured on my samsung s24 ultra.
Whe i connect diectly to hotel router or use verizon travel pass with or without vpn, icon disapperars and i can use sms text.
Does SMS text refer to the operator's text message? Or the text messages from instant messaging apps?
If it is an SMS text, it should be related to the cellular network of the cellphone SIM card (operator), and not to which WiFi the phone is connected to, I think.
Actually, i think my android phone google messaging app is using RCS, however i tried SMS and it neither sends nor receives thre AT1800.
Yes, this is my Verizon account however can send and receive texts both with the host router and with Mexican roaming cell accounts, but NOT with AX1800 on relay or ethernet to host router.
I also trie all 3 options (host router, cellular, AX1800 in relay and ethernet) both with and without vpn both on cell phone and separately on openvpn.
I take your point that it is my provider,s sms/rcs address and some infrastructure, however the common point of failure is the AXT1800.
Nothing in AXT configuration stands out to me as the issue.
Can you confirm that Do not disturb is automatically turned on after connecting to the AXT1800 network? If so, this option will affect the SMS function.
Pls check if your have added any schedule tasks to Samsung phone, or if you have other Samsung smart devices with the Dot not disturb option enabled and synced with the phone.
The problem may be more related to the phone Settings
Thank you for your response. I originally did have "Sleeping" turned on but during my debugging session I turned that off and had it off ever since. Also when sleep mode is on there is a circle with a horizontal line, not diagonal like "do not disturb". I have never had "do not disturb" on. However, even if I turn "Sleeping" on, I can text successfully.
So it seems that problem was that my phone could not find a cellular signal was being blocked when connected to the AT1800 and could not send a text.
When I connected directly to the hotel router, my cellular signal was not being blocked and I could send the text.
I don't know what the cellular signal has to do with it as I can send a text as long as I am connected to the internet even without a cellular signal.
Unfortunately, I am back in the US now and even if I connect to the AT1800, I am not getting the circle with diagonal line (blocked cellular signal).
It was repeatable when I was in Mexico.
Only other thing I noticed is that I originally was using ethernet in Mexico as the hotel router had three ports in it. That worked fine, except after the first day it seemed like my signal was blocked. So, I switched to wireless repeater mode and it was fine except that a day or two later I could not text when connected to the AT1800, but could when connected to the hotel router.
I think there was minimum or no cellular connectivity available when at the hotel as it was remote, so that was basically irrelevant. But I always got the "do not disturb" icon when connected to the AT1800 and not when connected directly to the hotel router..
Thanks for the detailed info. Not sure if it's due to the interference. If you have a similar problem again, pls connect to a different wifi band, change wifi channel to a different one on your router to see if it helps.
