I've just upgraded from a small Convexa-B (GL-B1300) to the bigger Flint 2 (GL-MT6000).
Initially this looks to have been a backwards step as not only is DFS enforced but more alarming the whole of band C channels are missing?
Initially I had to use 'luci' to change from the defaulted Belgium/Germany region to the GB-UK region, but this still hasn't enabled channels 149 - 165 to appear to be available for selection in the web settings?
From what I can determine I'm running the latest released non-beta firmware of v4.6.2
Why do the available 5Ghz band channels stop at 128?
Where are the next set of available band channels 149 - 165?
What has to be done/configured to be able to access this band which I have neen using on my little Convexa-B for the last 3yrs?
"In 2020, Ofcom in the UK announced that the requirement for DFS will be removed on more channels. Specifically, frequencies in the range of 5725-5850Mhz (5.8Ghz) which correspond to channels 149, 153, 157, 161 and 165 will be allowed for indoor unlicensed use in the UK, without requiring DFS checks before or during use."
I'm currently very disappointed with this WiFi 'downgrade'.
Hi Bruce, is there any easy guide anywhere on how to achieve that i.e. change from 4.6.2 to op24 and will that mean I loose the ability to access the router for maintenance etc which is configured in AP mode via the GL.iNet Goodcloud remote access service?
Hi @bruce & @admon, I just wanted to update this thread and thank you for all your help.
I've now flashed the unit to the op24 firmware as indicated and everything is working as I would have originally expected - after changing from the default BE to GB-UK region, I'm now freely using channel 157 AND with no DFS. My 5Ghz WiFi speed has also increased slightly.
It maybe worth flagging this to engineering to help future UK purchase/users from falling into this trap.
