I just purchased a Collie and was saddened to see no Tailscale support - and not enough memory on the device to install it as an addin so I started looking at the GL-X750V2. Does this run the full Gl.inet router firmware or a scaled back version like the Collie? Specifically, is there native Tailscale support on the device (like my Beryl) and if not, can I install Tailscale?
I am not completely sure, to be honest. But by looking inside the firmware files for the GL-X750V2, I wasn't able to locate the Tailscale binaries. Since they are pretty big, they wouldn't fit in the firmware storage, I guess.
If you don't need the GL GUI, you might try to install Tailscale manually by just downloading the correct compiled version for your CPU architecture. Maybe even my script will work on the Collie: GitHub - admonstrator/glinet-tailscale-updater: Automated Tailscale updater for GL.iNet routers: periodically checks for new releases, downloads the correct build, and installs/updates Tailscale reliably via script (for OpenWrt/GL.iNet firmware) · GitHub
I only have 2mb of space left on the device and I also don’t believe i can flash just openWrt as I need the 4g features. Too bad this device doesn’t support Tailscale, its a natural goto for IOT monitoring across subnets and the WAN.
