Hello folks.
My situation is an attempt to set up Tailscale on my Home router and Tailscale on my travel router so I can have access to my home network from the road, router to router and not tail scale enable computer to Tailscale computer. I read the documentation and apparently my travel router doesn't have this functionality, so I need to get a new version?
While reading the docs I noticed a comment that it's not recommended to use both a Wireguard VPN and Tailscale simultaneously. So that's a second issue.
My current home setup uses a new Flint 2, GL-MT6000. It's my primary router, with two WAN feeds, and using a Mullvad full traffic VPN. This works great! I'm using Google Fiber 1G and Spectrum fiber 1G and getting about 800+MBS wired and 600 MBS wifi, with VPN. I've got a secondary mesh wifi network under this and it gets a reliable 450 MBS everywhere in the home. I set my Apple TV device to run without VPN. I've had outages and the setup runs fine (it set for load balancing and not for failover). According to the docs this router model supports tail scale, and tail scale setup is an option on the admin screens.
For travel I've been using a GL-MT1300 for the last couple of years (my second GLI-net travel router). But, from the docs, tail scale isn't supported on this device.
Question: ==>. Is it possible the update the software for the GL-MT1300 to use Tailscale at the router?
If I can't update the software, my plan is to purchase a new GL-AXT1800, which appears, per docs on this site, to support TailScale.
Question: ==>. Can I keep running my Mullvad VPN on the home GL-MT6000 while simultaneously using Tailscale to link to the travel router? Likewise can I keep running Mullvad VPN on my travel router (GL-MT1300 or GL-AXT1800) while simultaneously running TailScale to connect to the home GL-MT6000?
Thoughts, support and assistance appreciated.
Thanks!
