Tried to setup SQM on Flint 2 and at this point I've given up

I was hoping to get SQM to further reduce my latency through waveform but noticed that no matter what I tried from what gets suggested around here, my setup works better with hardware acceleration on and SQM off which nets me my full download speed (2.1 Gbps) and +25-33ms download active latency while my upload sits at around 3ms.

Most of the testing with SQM on and with hardware acceleration off was choosing between different queuing disciplines and playing with download shaping to messing with the link layer adaptation. All it felt like it was increasing my download latency while also lowering my speeds. It was only when I got to around 100mbps down is when latency dropped to around the 10s for the download.

I had no issue with upload during SQM + hardware acceleration off through all the testing as it was constantly sitting at 0ms.

My Flint 2 has the latest firmware (v4.8.3), however my OpenWRT is sitting on 21.02 instead the latest. Not sure how much of an impact that will do but I avoided because I didn’t feel like reconfiguring everything on the same day.

I currently use a Hitron CODA56 as my cable modem and my ISP is Xfinity. My internet plan is 2.1 Gbps down and 300 Mbps up. What’s up with my network?

I think that the flint 2 might not have enough cpu headroom to shape 2.1 gbps inflow traffic.

First of all I’m very sorry to hear you’re an Xfinity customer. Do you live in an area with ISP competition? Any company with fiber is going to be so much better. If depends on where you live but Xfinity commonly oversubscribes the shared lines causing your SQM settings to never truly be in control of the bloat.

Even with a perfect ISP your router is going to run out of CPU at around 800Mbps using cake and around 1100Mbps using fq_codel+simple.tbf. If you really need to shape your 2000Mbps download speed then you will need to use something else in front of your Flint 2 with a stronger CPU. I have read about people having success with N100/N150 mini pc or routers running Openwrt for shaping at that speed.
