Trouble Changing DNS 1 and 2 on flint 1 router AX 1800

Hi

I would be most grateful for some assistance I have a Flint 1 Router AX-1800 running the latest 4.6.8 firmware. I want to change the DNS1 and DNS2 in Internet Section.

When I try and modify this section I get this message am am unable to alter the DNS information

I have put myself a Pihole together and want the router to resolve DNS information via the PIHoles fixed IP address, I have tried setting up a Manual DNS IP Address under the DNS section but although I can input the information it doesn't appear to override the other DNS settings

Please keep any explanation as simple as possible as I'm getting on a bit and I don't know much about routers, thank you.

Ignore the DNS server on the main page, it's just the one you get from WAN.

Set the IP of your Pi Hole in the DNS section after changing Mode to Manual.
It won't show any difference on the first page.

Make sure to tick "Override DNS Settings of All Clients" as well.

Thank you for the reply, it does appear that I have done the right thing and altered the LAN DNS to Manual and entered my fixed Pihole IP address. I did click the "Override DNS Settings of All Clients" the problem must be somewhere else at least your reply rules out an error in router DNS.

So how did you test if it works or not?

The issue I have is I am Rate _Limited (1000 queries per 60 seconds) and I am not convinced that the total number of queries (788,090) can be wholly attributed to external queries, I do wonder if there is some sort of loop in the system!!!!!

My network isn't big just 6 devices and being retired I am not a gamer or a heavy user of the internet. I used the official Pihole.net instructions to put the Pihole together.

I'm sure there's something I'm missing but I am yet to identify what it is :slightly_smiling_face:

Any pointers on how I can diagnose the problem would be most helpful

I have had a thought about the Rate_Limit and wonder if this might be the cause. I have a Nvidia box we use for Netfliks I checked the DNS setting for that and the Nvidia box queries the router, I imagine the router then queries the Pihole!!!!

Should I change the settings on the Nvidia box and everything else on the network to query the Pihole directly, therefore removing one step, the router, out of the Query process?????

Would this help

I see Pihole has its own DHCP is it possible\ a good idea, to disable the Routers DHCP and simply use the DHCP in the Pihole?

How do you disable the DHCP in the router ?
