Unknown error occurred. Any suggestion?

It's actually two issues. Not sure if they are related.

Just got the Flint2. Connected as repeater to test out. Upgraded to latest firmware (v4.6.4) once internet is connected. Added a conf file from Windscribe VPN and configured to use policy based by client devices. Then I noticed the 'Unknown error' message started to pop up at the top. At that time, everything seems to be working. VPN and Non-VPN devices are getting the internet with correct external IP addresses. So I ignored the error.

After a day of usage, I restarted one of 'VPN allowed' Windows devices. Then that device couldn't get online anymore, even it's connected to the router. I tried anything I could think of (turn off VPN, remove all devices in VPN policy, use global proxy..etc) At the end, I decided to reset the firmware and start fresh. Still no luck. I can see the client device in GL's web UI, but traffic is not going thru. Even after router reset with no VPN profile.

This only happens to previously connected Windows devices thru Wifi (2G & 5G). If I connected thru wire, then it's fine. Because I used VPN policy based on client, I thought it's the MAC address saved somewhere in the router that caused the internet blocking. But it's still the same after firmware reset.

Also, the 'Unknow error' keeps on popping up every few minutes while I'm in the web UI. Even after I reset the router (only connected as repeater and no VPN profile), the error still shows up. I saw couple other threads with same error, but seems like they have additional packages or Luci installed. In my case, I don't have anything extra installed.

Any suggestion on what I can do next to troubleshoot these errors?

Thanks

If you reset the device but still see the same error (without vpn) then it is strange.

Do you see this error in other pages (not the vpn page)?

Also if you reset the router but your windows client still does not connect to the Internet, it just seems something is in your windows.

Do you have vpn on that Windows?
Do you have multiple connections on the Windows, e.g. wifi and cable connection at the same time?

Both the above two things can cause similar issues because the windows cannot access the rotuer sometimes.

Yes, I do see the same error message shows up on other sections of web UI.

For the Window device's connection issue, it's a strange one too. The device is connected without issue before the restart and firmware reset. I tried to connect to different Wifi (I have gliNet's Flint 1, Mango, TP-Link, Asus, and T-Mobile's. I don't know why I have so many routers at home either. ha!) No issue on those router's Wifi. I'll try to get another Windows device to test it out soon.

Can you open the browser developer console (F12) and look if it print an error while the message is shown?

Yes, I see these.

It says the network connection was lost. So it is a problem of the connection, not the router's UI and API.

Maybe you windows disconnected from the router's wifi.

After opening using F12
You can see which rpc is red
Click Payload to see which API it is

Hello, I have the same issue, but in my case I see the popup only with Safari. With Chrome everything is ok. I'm using wireguard + mullvad vpn.

Try in private / incognito tab in Safari.

No way, same error even with private tab.

After a while the same message popped out even in Chrome

After more testing, here are what I found:

  1. Looks like the 'rpc' calls are auto-refreshing the page contents. Some rpc calls are successful. Some just failed. Then the Unknown Network error shows up.

  1. I tried to test it on different browsers and OS. I'm not getting error message under Windows (Edge & Chrome). But I do see failed 'rpc' calls in the dev console. On Mac, I can only connected to the Admin via Safari. Both Chrome/Firefox don't work, even I can reach the internet via different tabs.

  1. After I disabled the VPN (Windscribe + Wireguard + Kill switch off), all devices can connected to the internet (even the one I had trouble earlier). I have a Mac, two Windows connected. But if you see the screenshot below, it's missing a client.

Does that missing client use static IP?

I have the same problem with Flint2. I reset it. Then I went through and 4.7.4, I turned off ad guard home, vpn off, but periodically the message appears.
Something is probably going on with .rpc and some ad guard services, but I don't have the knowledge to look into it further.
I don't think it affects anything significant in the network operation, so I don't pay attention to it.

The message only appear when logged in and you open a page?

Yes, that's right, these messages are displayed in the router's web interface, periodically. There is no need for any device connected to the router to do anything, as far as I understand. It does not matter if I have vpn or adguard home open or not.
in case I am in the router app, no such message appears. But the message appears in all the browsers I have (safari-brave-chrome) on imac, ipad, iphone, when I open the admin page
It goes out for a while and then goes away.
