I updated the flint 2 to version 4.8.2 stable from version 4.7.7 and after the update, choosing to keep the settings, the router no longer worked and the VPN policy menu did not appear. Do I have to put 8.4.2 with a settings reset?
There were some hiccups with the update from 4.7.7 to 4.8.0 and probably the same from 4.7.7 to 4.8.2. I recommend making a fresh install, including a reset. Before, always make a backup of the old config.
Hi, I’ve just upgraded my Flint 2 (MT-6000) but disabled the VPN server AND client first.
Ofcourse I’ve made a backup first and the upgrade went perfect.
Even with the settings activated.
I updated with the VPN Active, could this be the problem?
Can a backup of version 4.7.7 be uploaded after upgrading to 4.8.2?
Flint v2's v4.8.x VPN routing underwent a conf-breaking rewrite for the introduction of the 'VPN Policies' (policy based routing — PBR) feature. If you have a backup tar.gz the contents are just a collection of UTF-8/LF text files. You'd have to manually extract the details within & add 'em into v4.8.x.
so how to update correctly
No. The backup is meant for situations where version 4.8.2 malfunctions and you need to quickly reinstall 4.7.7 with your previous settings. Most of my upgrades went smoothly, but in some cases, a clean install was necessary.I'm afraid the settings from the previous installation won't be retained, so you'll need to set them up again manually.
Settings from 4.7.7 on 4.8.2 gave me sms bus errors all 5 seconds. I dont want to type in all settings after an firmware upgrade, so much settings …. With previous updates i didnt have a Single problem keeping the settings. Im going back on 4.7.7 now -.- i feel like a paying beta tester-.-
I cannot confirm that. Only that my update went without problems with both VPN’s disabled.
When the update was done, I only had to enable the VPN’s again.
Hi
We upgraded Flint 2 from 4.7.7 to 4.8.2 with the VPN activated and encountered no issues.
Could you provide us with a copy of your backup file on 4.7.7 so we can recreate your device environment here and identify where the conflict might be occurring?
Backups can be performed under Luci - System - Backup / Flash Firmware.
I did a clean install by restoring the router before and after installing version 4.8.2. But the VPN functions menu doesn't appear.
Please check if the CN icon is displayed in the upper-left corner and if you are using Simplified Chinese.
If the latter, please try using Traditional Chinese/English to see if the VPN menu appears.
why these complications now and late are back at 477
If unsure, keep the backup limited.
This can be done in two ways:
Way 1: open the backup file with 7zip, delete anything except for path /etc/config or if you want to limit more you just also delete some configs, then reupload the modified backup archive.
Way 2: is the same principe as way 1, but then you extract the backup file, and with winscp you upload only the contents of /etc/config/ like ftp.
This ensures, unexpected lib functions which are unintentionally being tracked by sysupgrade (they really shouldn't) to not be kept, and a bunch of files in /etc/.
This way you can securely cherry pick, if not satisfied you can always take files from /rom/etc/config but be aware that wireless likely doesn't have a config and wifi config output mismatch what the factory config would look like, you have to look into /rom/etc/uci-defaults and figure out which script does the factory wireless for you.
I hope it helps
, but surely there is a point to be made, it is unusual that every upgrade just break with the config, and I think this needs to be prevented because in OpenWrt this doesn't happen, unless there was a big transition like from swconfig to DSA.
It will surely break if you sysupgrade between different sdk these backups may break and carefully examination is needed, especially the wireless config, but network aswell, if the dsti changed the port names or wireless uses different radio namings, then yes, therefor it is recommend to always upgrade without the settings kept and evaluate later if a backup is compatible.
I'm just going to note that cherry picking conf to re-upload isn't necessarily the right step. There have been cases in the past where the details within have changed between versions so the old conf in a backup, at best, won't do anything or at worse, boot loop the device.
dnsmasq on v4.8.x for Beryl AX & Flint v2 is the most recent example of drastic conf changes. I tend to check the firmware changelog to get a sense of what I may be faced with adjusting.
The problem was solved, it was due to Safari browser version 16.6, which does not display the HTML page of the gl-inet browser properly. I logged into the router using Google Chrome and everything appeared.
How very strange. At least you got it now! Don't forget to mark your 'Solution' to let others know.
