Use of Comet with a KVM Switch

I know there are a few posts like this already, but I think I've got an idea that may work.

I have a four computer KVM switch that has hotkey support, essentially if you type , , 1-4, you can switch between computers one through four. The switch has three ports on the front: keyboard, mouse, hub. The Comet works great when connected to the hub port on the KVM, but the keyboard port is needed for the hotkey support so I'd still need to have a physical presence to switch inputs. When I plug the Comet into the keyboard port, I can sometimes get things working if I disable the mouse but often it simply won't recognize input at all on my Linux or Windows systems behind the switch. However, I can use the KVM Switch hotkeys in this setup even when the keyboard doesn't function. On Linux clients I end up with errors like these:

What does work is a laptop-like terminal, but obviously this needs local access. This terminal seems to emulate a USB keyboard with a touchpad and the KVM switch is fine with that. I've been trying various USB device identities to no avail, my guess is that the profile advertised by the Comet just isn't compatible.

If there was a USB profile that simply looked like a keyboard with a pointing device similar to the Vilros VILP108 and had no other functionality (I don't need audio or anything else) I think it would work. I'd be happy to install test firmware if that's something that can be done easily.

I've discovered that disabling the Virtual Media seems to have done the trick! I do have a few comments, however, regarding v1.4.2:

I'd love to have a UI for editing the hostname, but the workaround of using the console to edit /etc/hostname works for now.

I'd also like to be able to reorder the Wake On Lan list like you can reorder the shortcuts. WoL support is an incredible feature to have, BTW!

Now I'm even more excited for the Pro with HDMI output!

Thanks for your provision about KVM switch!
In our latest firmware 1.4.2, you can edit hostname by vim command " vim /etc/hostname".

A great feature would be to reprovision the USB-A port as a simple keyboard/mouse and the USB-C port able to support mass storage and any other functionality, but I don't need mass storage support on the Comet so the intersection of folks who need a simple HID output AND need mass storage is pretty low.

Your suggestion of vim as an editor tells me that I'm dealing with the right sort of people! I'm going to enjoy seeing how this product evolves, an API-based mechanism for uploading and rotating certs and SSH keys or direct certbot integration for certs (DNS or web authentication), low res EDID generation for text-based applications, etc.

Now I need to reconsider whether my fallback SSH is my Digital Loggers Pro power strip or your GL-RM1.
