Using a Flint2 as a repeater

Hi everyone,

I have a Flint 2 and I need to extend the coverage of my home Wi-Fi network. Since I can’t rely on a mesh network, I’ve been evaluating the different options and I’m leaning toward the idea of buying a second Flint 2 to use as a repeater. Compared to a basic access point, this would have the advantage of providing Ethernet ports, which near the TV would be useful for connecting the TV itself, a Shield, a Switch, and a PS4.

How does SSID management work, though? Is the coverage of the existing SSID simply extended, or is a second network actually created? And in that case, can I create two guest networks? How would VPNs, the firewall, and similar features work on the second router?

Thank you

I just did something similar using a flint 3 and a slate 7, a few teething problems, but once I got past them its working flawless.

So my main router is the Flint 3 and is connected to the Slate 7 via repeater extender mode, this does indeed create another network, however, most of the devices on the Slate are IoT devices, the main reason I had to extend the network in the first place was my Doorbell wasnt getting hardly any signal and I was missing visitors ring it, I probably could of just used a cheap TP link WiFi extender, but wanted something much more configurable than that, and can still communicate perfectly fine with those IoT devices with things like my Phone, Google Home and PC etc connected to the Flint, like turning lights on, turning sockets on, automating things to come on when I leave home like camera’s etc, you get the idea.

Its my understanding though, if you hardwire both Flint 2’s together and put one of them in AP mode then they will run on the same SSID and not create a seperate network.
