Using GL-MT300N-V2 as a VPN router

GL-MT300N-V2 as a VPN router just for a specific Wifi/SSID

hello, was hoping someone could help me - in brief, I would like to make sure that a specific Wifi/SSID gets routed to my GL-MT300N-V2 (firmware 3.216), which is then connected to a VPN. use case is specific devices in my network being connected to such Wifi/SSID so that they can access content from other countries/to get around geo-blocks. the other wifi/SSIDs should continue to be used as before ie not be connected to this VPN.

in brief:

  • GL-MT300N-V2 is in router mode and currently works with no issue, I can connect to the VPN - when it has Wifi activated then this works as intended/described
  • however, I would rather want the access points i have throughout the house to be used for the Wifi element instead of the Wifi of the GL-MT300N-V2

setup:
access points with Wifi -> connected via LAN cable to -> main router (draytek vigor 2866) (which is the device used for internet access and has other devices connected to it which are not to use the VPN set-up) -> connected via LAN cable (port 2) to the GL-MT300N-V2

Access points with the 'VPN' Wifi are tagged with VLAN2.

before I go into detail/a rabbit hole as to what the current setup is (which doesn't work and involves a static route, assigning a static IP etc as I can't seem to get DHCP to work on the GL-MT300N-V2, also it being on a different subnet (as I understand it) then the main router, dedicating port 2 on the main router as the port that the GL-MT300N-V2 should be connected to (and which then doesn't get recognised - on other ports it does with it's dedicated IP), would be grateful for any tips as to what the setup should be, keeping this as simple as possible?

Do you mean that bring the MT300NV2 enter VLAN2 as VPN Gateway?

If the WAN of MT300NV2 is connected to the LAN of the main router, the DHCP request of the clients may not be able to reach MT300NV2 since its WAN does not deal with DHCP.

You can simplify the requirements.
The MT300NV2 as a drop-in gateway. Join the main router, just need to manually modify the IP/Gateway on the clients which using the VPN.

Bruce, thanks for taking the time to respond - yes, that is a solution that would work for me. However, the MT300NV2 does not seem to have that function (am in 'router' mode). Is this a question of changing the mode (eg to 'access point' mode) or if not, could you reccomend a router from your products that is similar to the MT300NV2 but has the feature you mentioned?

The MT300NV2 supported this feature which I mentioned, here for reference:

Thanks! Was a firmware issue (had not been updated). Now shows. Thanks again!
