Yes, exactly that. Randomize first, then connect and pay.
Great. Is there any special treatment needed for the phone’s MAC address? I have an iPhone which has a “Private Wi-Fi address” option that gives a different MAC. Is that okay to use or should I disable it?
That’s totally fine behind the router, I never turn it off on my phone. It’s just making sure to randomize it on the router, prior to paying or connecting to the internet (airline, hotel, etc). And you don’t need to randomize it every time… I usually do it once in a while, or if I need a different IP address.
Once randomized, they can no longer tell what type of manufacturer based on MAC OUI. So once is enough, just don’t keep it “default”.
They can block/black list based on behavioral factors, but that’s unlikely, and I haven’t see. It done outside of hospitals, and businesses. Airlines and Hotels usually don’t care (or have the budget) to invest in newer tech for the sake of control.
I wanted to take advantage of the inflight tmobile free wifi offer. The prompt for the offer only appears if you access from a mobile device (maybe it’s user agent based?). Do you think they can determine the router isn’t a mobile device after redeeming?
Old thread but really great info. Do you know if there are different airplanes with different wifi capabilities? I'm asking because when I fly, I have no issues with the MT-3000AX on a 777 or 787. However, when I'm on a 737 Max, I get sent
to the info page, then I get a message saying the above. I don't get this message when on the 777 or 787.

Anyone?
What device do you use for connecting to the Wi-Fi?
Apple? Did you turn off private relay?
Private relay was turned off. I'm using several devices (tried) to include Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, IPad, and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. It worked on some planes, but others it does not.
Have you already authenticated on the unitedwifi?
What if you click unitedwifi.com, do you get their portal page?
I do not get their portal page. I am sent to a page that gives the message that I posted above. If you have anything I can try, let me know. I'll be boarding a 737 in about an hour, so I can try something new. My last resort is to just log on normally (without the Beryl MT-3000AX) and that works fine. As stated, this only seems to be a problem on the 737 airplanes.
Will this work with “Private WiFi Address” set to “Rotating” on an iPhone 14 or iPad?
I tried it and I still have the same issues on a 737. I'm thinking that United is using a different wifi protocol or access for the 737 (Max). When I try to log in through Beryl, I get a "pricing page". When I log in normal (without Beryl), I'm taken directly to the access page to select how I want to log in (normal).
Strange behavior. Does mac clone solves this problem?
It does not. A quick internet search reveals that this problem is not isolated. I used it on my second flight on A 787 with no problems. It's just the 737 that doesn't play well. I even tried neverssl.com and that did not work. Any other suggestions?
Would be interesting to know if DNS and ICMP (ping) works or if the in-plane Wifi blocks that already.
HI admon. It was totally being blocked. I tried to ping on the ground and in the air. I knew it wouldn't work, but I even tried starting with the vpn "on". I talked to another traveler, and he had the same issue with his repeater. Once I get to that pricing page, I can't get through. Are you familiar with neverssl.com? Are there any other similar sites that may work? Back in the day, when hotel sites did not direct us to the log on page, cnn.com "used to work", but not anymore. I wish that I had another device (not a Beryl) to try. I guess I'll get the new model and see if that one works.
Last time i saw this behaviour in a hotel i spoofed a real iphone MAC and played with TTL. Not sure if this will help in this case.
I can try. I won't be traveling for another week or so, but at this point, I'm willing to try anything. Thanks for the suggestion. Strange thing is that hotels work just fine. It's just this particular plane. I need to try it with another carrier.
@alzhao I might end up on a 737Max in about 2 weeks. Is there anything i could do to help if i run into the problem? Traces?
