Very slow traffic with Spitz

I'm using the GL-X750 v2 Spitz. My old router was a Fritzbox 6850 LTE.
I love the Spitz but for some reason it's so damn slow. Here's my setup:
Since I'm using VPN on my clients instead of my router, the router is just running the most basic setup.
Same spot my Fritzbox was in, same SIM, same everything.

With the Spitz, I get download rates of 2,37 Mbps and uploads of 1,33Mbps. Shutting it down, swapping SIM to the Fritzbox, so 5 minutes later, the Fritzbox does downloads of 11,42Mbps and uploads of 8,73Mbps.
Swapping back to check if it's just the LTE network fluctuation. Same thing: Spitz is at 2down, 1up. Back to the Fritzbox, 11down, 8up.

Whats going on? Also, on the Spitz, I had several days a week with pings of 500-800ms which is insane. The Fritzbox usually is between 30 and 35, in bad days it's up to 50ms.
Can't say I did some bad setup since I just put the SIM inside and off I went, but please prove me wrong here.
If I can't fix that, I'll return the Spitz and stay with the Fritzbox. Although I'd appreciate some help, hoping to get the same speeds with my Spitz.

Few thing to try:

  • upgrade your firmware to latest version with turning off the keep setting toggle

  • verify if the spitz and fritz connect to the same LTE bands.

Also upgrade the modem module as per the following guide:

is there a more convenient way to do this?

also, where can i check the lte bands that are used?

First download and install this latest Beta firmware from GL Web Admin panel:
https://fw.gl-inet.com/firmware/x750/testing/openwrt-x750-4.3.13-0326-1711441894.bin

To check the bands, enter this AT command: AT+QNWINFO

For example on my modem it looks like:

After updating the router' firmware, we can move to the next step to upgrade the modem module.

thanks for helping out.
frankly, i'd rather prefer a "simple fix" over downloading a beta, entering some commands etc. i really appreciate the help, but isn't there a simple solution? clicking upgrade and getting the latest firmware and thats it? it already was a bit of a hassle to get the sim running after all...

You can share your device to GoodCloud according to the documentation
Then send me the mac address and password privately
I'll help you upgrade and debug in the background
Then you run some speed tests

i'd rather do it myself than give someone else access to the router, thanks.
all i want to know: upgrading to the latest firmware doesnt actually update every component of the router?
so there is no easy way to update everything? i have to use beta software and do some hacking to get it updated?

It will update the system by replacing all files on the "hard disk" - so no, it won't upgrade modem firmware for example.

It's not hacking, it's just updating things that are usually not needed to be updated. Like a BIOS / UEFI upgrade on a PC, for example.

I was surprised to see that you're not using the VPN function on the old Spitz and still seeing slow performance.

Are you using any other features on the Spitz, such as QoS/traffic shaping? Or really anything at all other than just connecting to LTE and routing packets?

The reason I ask is because the old Spitz v2 CPU is very slow, so if the CPU is loaded down for some reason, it can impact performance. I tried using it with OpenVPN and it was simply too slow for my application with OpenVPN enabled. The CPU was constantly maxed out and performance was poor.
