View Logitech Webcam Remotely with GL-AR300M Ext

I’ve heard it can be done…I just don’t know how to do it!

I’m able to connect my Logitech C920 USB webcam to the GL-AR300M Ext and see the stream inside the advanced (root) UI. I’d like to be able to see what the webcam sees while I travel over the next three weeks (keep a live eye on my property, etc.).

I thought I knew a fair bit about routers, but this port forwarding and public IP stuff is leaving me stumped. Would anyone care to walk me through the steps…slowly?

I just want to see what’s happening at home while I’m out of the country.

Using the router with webcam is strongly a DIY level application.

  • You have to make sure you have a public IP address.
  • You need to know your port for webcam streaming, e.g. 192.168.8.1:8083

You should do:

  1. In your main router (e.g. 192.168.1.1) set up port forward to the mini router (e.g. port 8083 to 192.168.1.100 8083)
  2. In the mini router, open port 8083
  3. Then you will be able to see the video from your-public-ip:8083
