I setup a VPN Client and everything worked. I logged out of the admin panel. When I logged back in and went to the VPN Dashboard, I am being required to setup the VPN client again. My question - do you need to do this every time you login to the admin panel or can you setup a VPN client within the dashboard that you connect to once you've logged in to the admin panel?
I can tell you setting up & activating a WG client connection should stay connected as long as the endpoint you're connected to doesn't glitch. IDK about OpenVPN; I don't use it.
Proton VPN has a free tier. You can export a WG .conf
& upload it to your device. It'd be unlikely all their servers are unable to stay connected. That'd be a good way to test that it's not the device that's having trouble.
Once you've configured a VPN, the connection should not be disconnected. Some VPN services that use an account and password may have time limits, but this is a problem with the VPN server and has nothing to do with the router.
Will your VPN configuration be lost? Do you need to re-import the configuration file each time?
Are other existing configurations saved properly? WiFi password, etc,.
